Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Even Your Names Are Destined

Every Wednesday, the neurosurgery department has a routine big hospital round. This involves the department director leading the doctors to check on all the hospitalized patients.

After completing the shift handover today, the doctors followed the director for the rounds. Director Thorne walked at the front, Silas Shaw was originally walking right behind the director; he glanced back at Caleb Lockwood, who was trailing at the back, slightly furrowing his brow, and deliberately walked to the back to walk alongside Caleb Lockwood.

He lifted his white coat, inserted one hand into his pocket, tilted his head, and lowered his voice, speaking to Caleb Lockwood beside him, "Yesterday, when I was at the clinic, I ran into a young girl who specifically registered your number to find you. Guess who she is?"

Caleb Lockwood glanced at him sideways, not wanting to engage. Silas Shaw, being his usual playful self, liked to joke about these things.

Seeing no response from him, Silas Shaw continued teasing on his own: "It's the girl I mentioned to you before—came to your office wanting to pursue you. Great personality, looks like a little fairy, quite persistent. I think she's pretty awesome."

"That girl hasn't graduated from college yet; she's still our country's blossom. A 21-year-old young girl, pretty and cute, having a crush on you, a 28-year-old older virgin, tsk tsk, your charm is really something."

Caleb Lockwood frowned slightly at his words, a faint smile appeared on his handsome and refined face: "Are you jealous?"

Silas Shaw: "..." His mouth twitched, just as he was about to retort, he heard the director calling his name.

"Silas Shaw, is this your patient?" Director Thorne stood at the foot of bed number 9, with a serious expression, waiting for him to report the medical history. The other doctors also turned their heads to look at him.

"Ah, yes. This patient was admitted due to a car accident, epidural hematoma, and today is the 8th day post-surgery, recovery is good. The stitches can be removed in another week." Silas Shaw spoke without changing his expression, showing no signs of the tension or guilt from being caught distracted by the director.

He answered fluently, showing no hint of insecurity.

Serena Sutton had arrived at the hospital early and, hearing that the doctors were doing rounds, went to find them.

Doctors were standing in the ward, all in white coats—a glance revealed that they were all male doctors. They varied in height and build, but she saw Caleb Lockwood among the crowd at a glance.

He was tall, fair-skinned, the most handsome, yet maintaining a cold demeanor.

Serena Sutton didn't dare to enter, she just stood at the door, with both hands clutching the wall beside the door frame, then cautiously poked her head out.

Her beautiful, clear eyes stared straight at Caleb Lockwood.

At this moment, a child of some patient's family, running down the corridor, fell over and burst into loud tears.

Doctors doing rounds instinctively looked towards the door; Serena Sutton's heart skipped a beat, and in a panic, she unexpectedly met Caleb Lockwood's dark eyes.

She paused for a moment, quickly pulled her head back, and fled in panic.

Her heart was racing as if she had done something wrong and suddenly got caught—a mix of nervousness with a hint of excitement and thrill.

Caleb Lockwood looked towards the door, his gaze paused there for a few seconds, eyes flashing slightly, then calmly withdrew his sight.

Outside the corridor, the child's cries had gradually subsided, and in the ward, the only sound was the director inquiring about the patient's condition.

Caleb Lockwood recalled the girl's face, pretty and clean...

Silas Shaw walked up to Caleb Lockwood, casually placing one hand on his shoulder, speaking nonchalantly: "Where were we earlier? Oh right, the young girl aiming to pursue you."

"It was the one at the door just now; did you see her? Her name's Serena Sutton. It has a nice ring to it, and you two share quite a synchronicity with your names."

Caleb Lockwood was slightly dazed upon hearing this, his eyes brightened, and he turned sideways to look at Silas Shaw: "You said, what's her name?"

"Serena Sutton, the Serena from 'cities and rivers.' She definitely came looking for you just now. Hey, where is she?"

Saying this, Silas Shaw glanced towards the door, but saw no sign of Serena Sutton, his gaze showing slight disappointment.

Looks like today is not the day for a good show.

Caleb Lockwood didn't respond, gently lowered his gaze, slipped his hand into his white coat pocket, and accidentally touched the cold exterior of his phone, his eyes deep, with undefined emotions.

Serena Sutton came out of the inpatient department and found a long bench outside to sit down; her heart was still racing and was even making her cheeks flush.

Her fair, youthful face revealed a suspicious hue; Serena Sutton used her hand to cover it, only to realize afterward. Wait, why did she run? Why was she nervous?

The hospital is a public place; being there wasn't illegal, she shouldn't have run.

Ah, she really was hopeless—why is it that she forgets even her own name whenever she sees Caleb Lockwood?

Serena Sutton patted her cheeks; at this moment, her phone vibrated. She took it out to check that it was a WeChat message notification.

Opening WeChat, there was a message from someone named "L": "I've approved your friend request; now we can start chatting."

Technically speaking, this was a system-generated message.

Serena Sutton paused for a moment before realizing that this "L" was Caleb Lockwood. She had sent him a friend request yesterday.

She had thought he wouldn't approve, as they were strangers to each other, but unexpectedly...

Serena Sutton looked at her phone, her mouth couldn't help but curl into a smile. She looked up at the sky; the sun had already risen, and the light was somewhat dazzling.

She stretched her hand to shield her forehead, smiling with her eyes curved. Sunlight filtered through her fingers onto her fair face, warm and beautiful.

After the big hospital round ended, all the department doctors began to get busy again.

Silas Shaw had worked the previous shift, and after finishing the rounds today, handling his tasks, he was ready to go rest.

He removed his white coat and walked to Caleb Lockwood's desk, smiling and curiously asking, "During the rounds earlier, I saw you staring at your phone for quite a while. What were you looking at?"

Silas Shaw was deliberately asking this because he saw Caleb Lockwood checking WeChat earlier. Caleb Lockwood was an odd character, not frequently using WeChat.

Today, he was staring at his WeChat for so long, that it was indeed suspicious.

Caleb Lockwood slightly raised his eyes, his expression cool, not directly answering his question, but said, "I heard a new female doctor has joined the pathology department, named Zanna Vance."

The smile on Silas Shaw's face gradually froze, then disappeared.

His gaze darkened: "Even you heard about it?"

Then he gave a bitter smile, "Ha, seems we really shouldn't underestimate our hospital colleagues' gossip skills."

Caleb Lockwood said nothing, subconsciously glanced at his phone on the desk.

No new messages.

Silas Shaw sighed lightly and returned to his usual carefree self, hands in pockets, leisurely strolling away.

Zanna Vance, his ex-girlfriend from way back when, his first love.

Also the only woman who ruthlessly dumped him.
