The room was empty, with only Cecilia Vaughn and Mimi left.
The little creature pitifully hid at the edge of the bed, its fur no longer as glossy as before. Those heterochromatic blue and green eyes were dulled, occasionally stealing glances at Cecilia Vaughn, then retreating to hide against the wall.
Seeing Mimi like this, Cecilia Vaughn felt a sting in her nose. She tiptoed to the edge of the bed and carefully gathered Mimi into her arms.
Mimi stared at her, yearning for its owner. Those blue and green eyes blinked, instinctively wanting to act coquettishly.
But once it opened its little mouth, it realized it couldn't make any pleasing sounds. Mimi jumped in surprise twice; if Cecilia Vaughn weren't holding it, it might have darted to the balcony.
"Mimi, don't be scared... I'm here..."
Cecilia Vaughn gently stroked Mimi's fur, a tear sliding down her cheek and nestling in the little white bundle's soft hair.
