Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Isn't This Ruining Her?

Nina Pierce looked furious, "Those reporters are so infuriating, it's simply slander and defamation! Laura, just stay at my place for a few days."

Laura Quincy shook her head, "It's fine, it wouldn't be good to disturb your parents, and your brother is taking his college entrance exam this year, he needs a quiet environment."

Nina sighed, "Laura, you always worry about bothering others, my parents know you well."

Laura was unconsciously picking at the sheets, "My mom has another apartment, I can move there."

Nina grabbed her, "Move, my foot! Have you forgotten how you got the place you're living in now? If it weren't for our senior helping us win the lawsuit, your stepmother would have loved to see you homeless."

Laura pressed her lips together, saying nothing, her thoughts drifting far away. When she was fifteen, after her mom died in a car accident, her dad brought home a woman and a girl four years younger than her, claiming they were her new mom and sister.

Ha!

He actually kept a woman and child outside behind mom's back, and this was the happy family she believed in? It had been shattered long ago!

Since the new mom came in, she went from princess to maid.

In these years, the company grandpa left for mom was also completely taken by dad who married into the Quincy Family, if mom hadn't signed the apartment over to her early on, she would have gotten nothing.

The Fit she's driving now is still being paid off, obviously a rich heiress, yet living a tight and frugal life...

"Did anyone call me while I was unconscious?"

"No."

Seeing her friend shake her head, Laura knew her hope of finding a job was slim again, she refused to give up and picked up her phone to check the email, even the small company that reached out to her before had sent a rejection email...

In an instant, endless grievances flooded her, what did she do wrong to be despised by everyone? Clearly, many companies were competing to hire her as a translator before, and she was just ready to move to a large company after three years at her previous one, but suddenly she became a rat crossing the street...

Nina also felt sad for her friend, Laura's hard work and diligence over the years hadn't gone unnoticed by her. From her freshman year, she was on a full scholarship, did some translation side jobs, and after graduation smoothly found a job, her ability and achievements were top-notch in their company, and she had saved up several thousands to finance a Fit worth about a hundred thousand.

Now, at the peak of her career, she's falsely accused of "kidnapping a child," isn't this ruining her?

Laura buried her head in her hands, feeling hot tears sliding from the corners of her eyes, even when her dad and stepmother kicked her out of the house, she didn't feel this helpless...

At least, back then she could rely on herself to survive, but now?

The Hawthorne Villa.

Justin Hawthorne had been sulking with his dad ever since he came back, not wanting to speak to him, it was too much! Not letting him say goodbye to his sister before taking him home early in the morning.

And these days there were twice as many servants at home, is he a prisoner?

In the study room.

A tall, solitary figure faced the window, lighting a cigarette for himself, letting the smoke swirl in front of him, his eyes dark and inscrutable.

Personal assistant Mason Cross knocked and entered, "BOSS, the little master's medical report is out, no drugs in his system, he's in good health, and the leg grazed by the car is just a minor skin injury."
