Butler Forrest stepped forward to intervene. For some reason, he found Maeve Lane to be quite likable. "Mrs. Fairchild, please calm down. Miss Lane is still young and somewhat reckless. Please don't argue with her and upset yourself."
Mrs. Fairchild glanced at him, barely suppressing her anger. "Do you know why I called you here?"
Maeve Lane stood up, half a head taller than Mrs. Fairchild.
And she was wearing flat shoes.
Mrs. Fairchild had to look up to speak to Maeve's eyes, but this diminished her authority completely.
She held back her temper and scolded, "Sit down!"
Maeve raised an eyebrow, gave Mrs. Fairchild a once-over, and sat down without further ado.
Standing was quite tiring too.
She sat casually, chin slightly lifted, leisurely waiting for Mrs. Fairchild to speak.
