He was flustered, stuttering as he spoke, saying there was someone in the corridor.
There being someone in the corridor wasn't strange; what was strange was the person's attitude. It seemed the person he was talking about was not recognizable to him, because they had been on the ship together for a long time and knew each other too well. They always called each other by name or nickname.
Now, this person only said there was someone in the corridor without mentioning who it was. Coupled with his weird demeanor, the others immediately became alert.
Some suspected it was pirates sneaking aboard under the cover of the storm, because in such weather, even if they called for help, no one would come.
