Adam's POV
I pulled Diana by her arm towards the trees, somewhere far off so no one could hear us.
"Adam, where are we going?" She asks in her bratty voice, that I was clearly getting tired of.
"Somewhere where no one would make out how insensitive you're being right now."
We get far enough and halt beneath a large almond tree.
She rips her arm off me, "Let me go, Adam."
"I sure will, what were you even thinking?"
She folded her arms sassily. "Nothing, I was clearly placing boundaries."
I rolled my eyes at her stupidity. "You dare speak badly about your Alpha!"
Her face scrunched in disgust. "She's no Alpha of mine. Did you give her your title?"
"Is that all you care about?"
"Yes, by the way I'm the future, Luna, so she should respect me too."
"Hmmmmm, you're lucky she hasn't punished you for the continuous disrespect."
"She can't do anything."
"Since you feel she's so incompetent, where were you when the attack happened?"
Her eyes lingered around, not being able to stare at me in the face.
"You heard me, where were you? You're one of the best warriors we have."
She shrugs her shoulders with disinterest. "I was helping around," she mutters slowly.
I crease my forehead in confusion. Diana is never nervous, like never ever.
"This is new, you literally disappeared when we needed you the most. But you think you can downplay someone else."
"Really? You know I heard that you were all over him in battle. You even saved the runt's life."
"I'm sure one of your minions told you."
"It doesn't matter, do you still love her?"
I shake my head in disappointment. "So you digressed from the point where you were absent as the "future Luna" in a crucial moment."
She heaves a sigh, "Are we not done yet? Cause I'm tired of talking."
"You claim you want to be my Luna but you are so darn disrespectful."
"I'm just saying my mind, stop downplaying me cause you're lucky to have me."
"Then prove it. You're supposed to put so much effort and care more for the pack. Being a Luna is beyond power but also responsibility."
She rolls her eyes to this, "So she's doing better at this than I am?"
"Can you forget her for a while, this is about us not anyone else."
"Is there even an us? You're so standoffish and distant from me. But now you seem all over her."
"You know what, just go. There's no agreeing with you."
"Whatever. Just know that you're stuck with me." She spins on her heels and heads back towards the clearing.
I think I'd stay here for a bit, so much is happening to me and I feel like I'm drowning.
"You see I warned you." My wolf, Darius, snickered at the back of my mind.
"Do you have to make me feel worse about myself?" I grit my teeth in anger.
"I'm just saying, I told you so." I blocked him out after that.
Now I feel like there's so much more to that night. Something deep inside makes me feel like I made the wrong decision.
"Now you're using your head." Darius taunts at the back of my mind.
"How did you get past my barriers so easily?"
"I'm you and you're me?" He says and cackles out loud.
"Whatever, today doesn't make any sense." I said thoughtfully.
"I know right? They were too specific about the attack."
"We'd look into it." I say out loud.
"Look into what?" Noah's playful voice echoes behind me.
I spin around so fast, "How do you do that, idiot."
"It's so easy man."
"What are you doing here by the way?"
"My sister is a handful so I came to help you out."
I bellow out in laughter, "So I'm not the only one suffering."
"You have no idea, I'm glad every time she spends time with you or her little minions." He says with a smile, sitting next to me.
"She's something else."
He nods thoughtfully, "So why were you speaking to yourself earlier?"
"The attack today just didn't seem right."
He goes silent for a while, "It was something. I'm still trying to figure out how they knew about the location of the bunker."
"Exactly, it's strategically located and hidden. No random person can just make a guess."
"Can you ask around for me, just in case."
"This is our home now, we need to protect it."
"Sure thing, Alpha." He says mischief in his eyes.
"You know I was speaking with Darren and he said that they were given quite the tight space at the Dominos pack, they also had to build tents for themselves."
"That is crazy, I thought the Alliance of Alphas made sure that the pack's helping had the capacity to do so."
"You know it's all a facade, it's just to get us displaced packs off their backs."
"Did we have any dead?"
"Yes, two strong warriors. Nathan and Mensa, we do have a lot wounded. It would seem we have a couple wounded though."
"I failed them again, you know. Like I'm the worst Alpha, can't even protect my pack."
"Stop talking down on yourself. You had to take the reins of the position so early after your parents passed. You have done the best job an Alpha can do."
"You're just trying to make me feel better. I feel so powerless, can't even figure out where the attack is coming from?"
"What do you mean?" He asked with raised brows.
"I feel like some bad omen, before we came here the Octavuis pack was able to ward off the attackers. But immediately we arrived, casualties followed."
"Stop overthinking it. If it would make you feel better, we can look into it but you're doing just fine."
"So I see you were all distracted in the battlefield by a little birdie." He says, giving me a playful nudge on his shoulder.
I roll my eyes, "You just had to say that."
"Ofcourse, don't you feel anything for your mate anymore."
"I rejected her you know, so exmate."
"You know that's not what I'm saying."
"Then what are you saying?" I answered.
"You feel something for her, I can see it."
"No I don't, ahead betrayed me."
"That's not the point right now, she might now have done anything, you know." He gives me a long look.
"She is nothing to me, I don't love her and have no feelings for her."
"Dude calm down, you know what, forget it."
"Her mother killed my parents, and she betrayed me."
"Great to hear what you think of me." Her strong voice resounded round the clearing.
My eyes widened in surprise.
