Last day off before UA begins.
I could be training alone and in peace.
Improving in the spectacular way I have been.
But no. All Might wants to be a good mentor and is trying to get me to use 100% of One For All.
What an annoying man. Why do these things happen to me?
"And for the seventh time, All Might, I'm not throwing a 100% Smash. I like my arm just the way it is," this man gets on my last nerve with how annoying he is.
"But, Young Midoriya—"
My ass. I'm so done with him.
"Look, Toshinori, I appreciate your desire to teach me, but I don't want your help. Don't get me wrong, but you're a terrible teacher, sir. Buy a book and learn how to be one, because honestly, this isn't helpful to me." Maybe this way he won't be so bothersome.
"You've become more confident, Young Midoriya, but also crueler." I'd like to say I feel bad for what I said, but his depressed face is pretty funny.
"Sorry for my rudeness. I guess it's just nerves, sir. I'm only a day away from starting at UA, and I don't know if my control over One For All is enough to keep up with the rest of the students." Another last-minute excuse. It's becoming a habit for me in these kinds of situations.
"Don't worry, Young Midoriya, you'll be fine. Your progress is spectacular, and you've shown a unique understanding of things. Besides, with all the teachers we have there, you'll gain a wonderful mastery over One For All." Well, those are the perks that come with being Isekai'd.
Although, I've been reflecting and came to the conclusion that having Gran Torino would be very useful for me right now.
And I think this is the best time to mention it.
"Who trained you, master? I'm asking because, now that I think about it, you had a teacher too, didn't you?" Ha, his legs are trembling just like in the canon. This is funny, I won't deny it.
"W-well, the man who trained me was Gran Torino, but you shouldn't worry, Young Midoriya, he's retired now and—" And now I'm going to get him to contact him for me. I'm so clever.
"Contact him, sir!" Can't let him see how fake my excitement is.
"That's not a good idea, Young Midoriya, he's an old man now."
"But he must know a lot. Please, sir, I'm sure he has a lot of wisdom to impart to me." Come on, All Might, don't be a wimp and call him.
"I... I'll try to call him." I can smell that lie from my other life, you bastard.
"Give me his number and I'll call him!" If this fails, then my plans are screwed.
"Of course! Get your phone and write it down, Young Midoriya! I'm sure Gran Torino will be delighted to hear from you!" Wow, what a coward. He'll do anything to escape his fears... Gran Torino, from now on, you're my idol.
...
After that strange and annoying day of training, I managed to contact Gran Torino.
I explained that I was the ninth wielder of One For All, and we started talking about how stupid and idiotic Toshinori is.
We became friends super fast.
I repeat, Gran Torino is my idol.
And we ended up deciding that Gran Torino will come to the city to meet me and help me in any way he can.
He doesn't know it yet, but he's my trump card for the U.S.J. attack.
But back to reality.
I'm standing in front of the gates of UA, and I can't help but compare this place to the buildings from my old life.
UA makes them look tiny.
Not just because of its height, but also its sheer size. It's simply impressive.
But I won't gain anything just by admiring this place.
Time to go in and succeed.
...
What UA has in magnificence on the outside, it loses on the inside.
It's like a labyrinth, everything looks the same, and you get lost instantly.
Fortunately, I ran into Cementoss, and he gave me directions.
By the way, his face is a total meme. When he smiles, I feel like laughing and telling him I want to play Minecraft with him.
And now I'm at the giant door of Class 1-A.
It must be at least 6 meters tall.
I open the door and...
Iida and Bakugo are arguing about putting feet on the desk.
I quickly enter the classroom and give everyone a quick glance.
Thank God there are no out-of-place students; the class is identical to the canon. All that's missing is for Uraraka to arrive.
For a moment, I was scared that my appearance in this world would alter the class, you know, a butterfly effect. But it didn't, to my relief.
They're all really normal now that I see them as flesh-and-blood people.
The only "weird" ones, so to speak, are Mineta, because he's super weird. I mean, he's a midget with two balls on his head. I've seen short people in my life, but Mineta is strange.
Mina Ashido too. It's one thing to see her as an anime character and a completely different thing to see her now. Her pink skin and hair of the same color don't match as well as they do in the anime. And her eyes... her eyes look like they pierce your soul; it's terrifying.
Shoji is an SCP, plain and simple, he is an SCP. One of the good ones, but he is one. Every time I look at him, I think of that fictional organization.
Iida's engines look cool; they make him look pretty awesome.
And Kyoka just has those jacks in her ears; it's nothing out of this world.
Now the rest are really...
"You're the one who figured out the secret of the test. A pleasure, I am Tenya Iida from—" And there go my thoughts, thanks for interrupting, Iida.
"I know who you are; I heard you arguing with Bakugo." Bakugo's murderous glare does justice to the one he has in the anime, but it's not enough to scare me. "I'm Izuku Midoriya. A pleasure, Iida."
"You're the plain-looking boy!" Ah, that voice. Here's the girl who is both loved and hated by the fandom, our dear Ochako Uraraka.
"Yeah, that's me. Izuku Midoriya. Nice to meet you."
Uraraka is one of the few people in this class who looks normal.
And I can see why so many people consider her one of the prettiest in My Hero Academia.
"If you're here to make friends, you can pack up and leave." Aizawa Shota. This man has one of the best Quirks this world has to offer, and he's seriously underestimated.
Once class is over, I'm going to ask him where he bought that sleeping bag because it looks super comfortable.
"It took you eight seconds to quiet down. That's irrational. Put these on and head to the campus for the test I'll be conducting." Ah, time to show off my progress and earn a place in this institution. By the way, the UA uniforms are quite unique, though the ones from Shiketsu look more awesome.
As I follow the others, hoping to find the changing rooms, the least expected person of all approaches me.
"Today, Deku, I'm going to prove my damn superiority. That disgusting confidence boost of yours ends today." Heh, Bakugo doesn't shout at me anymore; now he whispers. I think my actions influenced him quite a bit.
"I already told you what I had to, Bakugo. Now don't bother me; I want to enjoy my first day."
After that disgusting chat, I didn't interact with anyone else. Nobody was talking anyway.
We don't know each other, so very few are exchanging words.
...
And now we're here on the campus, and I'm more excited than ever.
I'm witnessing the beginning of canon since I arrived in this world! I'm a total fanboy right now, and I won't deny it.
"Bakugo, you placed first in the entrance exam. Now tell me, what was your ball throw score at your old school?" Aizawa's tone of voice is similar to Kakashi's, except Kakashi's is better because he sounded lazy, not tired. Aizawa's, on the other hand, sounds tired and bored. Someone who doesn't know him might even get irritated by the way he talks and acts.
"66 meters, sir."
"Fine. Throw it with your Quirk now." Seriously, how the hell can Bakugo smile like that? It's disgustingly terrifying.
"SHINE!" Wow, seeing Bakugo's Quirk is impressive. It feels like you're in an army test for landmines. Seeing it in reality is a thousand times more amazing than in the anime.
"705 meters. Not bad. Know your limits." 705 meters, huh? Looks like someone will have to break a finger today and beat that number.
"We get to use our Quirks? How exciting!" You screwed up, Mina, you screwed up.
After Aizawa's whole speech about life's injustices, we began the tests.
And they're really simple aptitude tests.
Nothing that hasn't been seen before, obviously not counting the Quirks.
The first test is the 50-meter dash and, apparently, fate, also known as canon, wants to keep me next to Bakugo, because he's the one I have to run against.
(5% is perfect for these tests. It allows me to stand out without pushing my body to its limit), I thought as I activated One For All and got into a runner's stance.
"Begin!"
Instantly, I shot off without even giving Bakugo a second glance. After all, I know exactly how he plans to use his Quirk in this race.
"Midoriya, 3.27 seconds. Katsuki Bakugo, 3.65 seconds." Not bad, though with 8%, I could have easily done it in two seconds.
"Hey Bakugo, good race." You've got to have sportsmanship, and of course, I have it. "Next time, try to condense your explosions a bit more. That way, you'll have more launching power." Can't say I'm not a team player.
"I don't want your advice, you stupid Deku." Ah, could you expect anything different from him?
"And I don't want to see your face, but here we both are, aren't we? Don't be so arrogant and accept help when it's offered."
...
Grip strength was decent.
I got about 270kg, not bad for someone who's only been in this body for half a month.
In the standing long jump, I was only beaten by Tsuyu with her jumps and Bakugo with his explosions.
The rest were no problem.
Most of the tests went like that.
I talked a bit with Kirishima and Sato, mostly about how our Quirks work and how to improve them.
It wasn't a big chat or anything, but at least I've now met two more from the original cast.
And now we're at the ball throw test.
Uraraka got her legendary infinity score, and now it's just me.
I can do three things here:
Use only 5% of One For All and throw the ball. I'm guaranteed a spot in the top five, so this test doesn't matter too much to me.
Use 8% and stand out a little more.
Or use 100% in my finger like canon Deku.
Decisions... decisions.
Using 8% will be enough for now. I've been doing very well anyway, so I don't need to stand out more.
"Midoriya, stop for a moment." Huh? What did I do now to piss off Aizawa? "Stop holding back your Quirk. Is this a game to you? If you're going to hold back, then quit this career." Oh, he noticed. Well, it was to be expected. I mean, he saw me break that giant robot... well, Izuku did, but you get the point.
"I understand, sir. I was holding back because I didn't want to break my bones and be useless. A hero who fractures himself all the time is irrational, don't you think?" Using his own logic seems to work, if the less threatening look on his face is anything to go by.
"Just don't waste my time."
"As you say."
Well, time to break a finger, I guess.
So, how did Izuku do this throw?
He charged all of One For All into his arm to gain throwing power, but at the last moment, he redirected all the accumulated power to his index finger.
I can do that.
(Alright, let's do this).
"SMASH!" The shockwave was amazing; it was like being at the center of a mini-hurricane.
Now my finger hurts, but it's nothing major. Breaking my arm hurt more.
"1076 meters. Not bad. Now let's go see the results." Yeah, I got 1076 meters, just like in the canon... Wait! What the hell?!
Why did I get a higher score than Izuku did in the canon?
The only thing I can think of is that by having a more mental, and not just physical, mastery of One For All, my baseline 100% is closer to the true 100% I'll one day be able to use.
This is interesting. With this, I not only have an even bigger advantage than the original Izuku, but now I have another reason to continue with this training.
Oh yeah, I finished in first place on the overall scoreboard.
Not bad, right?
This has certainly been a good first day at UA. Now all that's left is to meet with Gran Torino and start planning what to do about the U.S.J. event.
One day at a time.
Author's Note:
Hey.
Well, after about a week, I'm bringing another chapter for this story.
Gran Torino's appearance is close, and yes, he will be the protagonist's trump card at the USJ.
I once read that the numbers Izuku used as percentages for OFA were just references and not exact values of the power, and I really liked that theory, so I decided to implement it here to give more importance to the mental training the protagonist has been doing.
See you.
