The stars burned like scattered embers across the infinite void. Amidst them, two figures lingered in silence humanoid in form, but far beyond the reach of mortals. One reclined lazily on the fabric of the heavens, tossing a glowing sphere between his feet as though boredom itself were his throne. The other sat cross-legged upon an invisible seat, a heavy tome resting open on her lap, its pages turning with no hand to guide them.
Hakai: So… it begins again, huh? [he kicked the sphere upward, catching it on his heel like a child playing in the dirt.] All the others already picked their guardians. Boring! Predictable! Yet here we are… still unchosen.
Sōzō:[without lifting her violet eyes from the pages] Patience, Hakai. Not every flame burns bright at first spark. The right choice requires time.
Hakai:[pouting, rolling onto his back] Time, time, time. You and your time. I want fun! Explosions, chaos, something new!
Sōzō: You crave destruction without purpose. That is why you always hesitate at the final moment. A guardian is not a toy.
Hakai:[grinning] Says the one still waiting after all this time. Don't tell me you're afraid of choosing wrong?
The pages of her book paused mid-turn. For a moment, silence.
Sōzō: …Perhaps I am cautious. You know the weight of this cycle. Once chosen, there is no return.
Hakai stretched, yawning loudly, before sending the glowing sphere spinning high into the void.
Hakai: Fine, fine. Let's just wait then. But you can feel it too, right? Down there? Something's about to start.
Sōzō finally lifted her gaze. Her eyes fell upon a single world below blue and green, wrapped in storm and sunlight. It shimmered against the dark like a shard of fractured glass, trembling on the edge of change.
Sōzō: Yes. That one.
Hakai smirked, kicking his heels idly in the air.
Hakai: Heh… so that's where the fun begins.
The view drew closer, narrowing through clouds and mountains, until a single kingdom came into focus. Somewhere within, a story stirred awake.
