Rumble.
Over New York, Sokovia plummeted rapidly. The crushing air pressure filled the residents with despair. Hurricane-like winds swept through the city, sending pedestrians tumbling through the streets.
"Sir, Sokovia is only 5,000 meters from the ground… 4,700 meters… 3,000 meters. It's still falling. Estimated impact in less than one minute."
Veronica's cold voice echoed inside Tony Stark's armor, making him let out a helpless smile.
"Veronica, do you think I'm on vacation right now? Shut down the weapon systems. Keep only the life-support functions, then divert everything to the thrusters."
Tony pressed both hands against Sokovia's underside, and streams of red energy erupted from his elbows, shoulders, and boots.
Boom!
The entire city shook. A massive reverse thrust surged upward, making Ultron, standing at Sokovia's center, glare darkly.
"Find him… and kill him."
With a wave, Ultron commanded his army. Free of any restraint now, his only goal was human extinction.
Whoosh. Whoosh.
Ultron's drones swarmed downward, surrounding Tony almost instantly.
"Hey, I need some help here!"
Sweat formed on Tony's face. Every ounce of his armor's power was feeding the thrusters—leaving him defenseless against the robotic horde.
Crack!
From above, lightning split the sky. Mjolnir smashed through the drones in an instant.
Thor soared into view, hammer in hand.
"Tony, if I save you here, I get a director's seat at Stark Industries."
Despite the chaos, Thor smirked as he teased, his mood lightened for a moment.
"Sorry, future All-Father, but Pepper's the only one who gets that seat."
Straining, Tony forced a grin while still holding Sokovia aloft.
"Well, looks like you still need a hand, brother."
Thor glanced at Tony's breaking armor, frowned, then raised Mjolnir. Lightning crackled and surged, striking directly into Tony's suit to supercharge it.
"Sir, energy overflow at 200%! Power diverted to thrusters!" Veronica reported as crimson-blue energy gushed out of the armor.
Rumble!
Sokovia was still falling—but slower now. The Avengers fighting in the skies felt a surge of hope.
"Well done, Tony!" Captain America shouted after cutting down two drones.
"I've got to admit, Tony… you're crazier than ever," War Machine said, watching his friend hold the city back alone.
"Save the applause. Veronica, target it now!"
Tony ignored the compliments, his focus locked on the catastrophe above.
"Sir, Star Destroyer targeting orbit is recalculating. Sokovia locked. Estimated capture in 30 seconds."
The update brought a smile to Tony's face—but only briefly. Thirty seconds still felt like eternity.
"Thor! I still need your hammer to give me another jolt!"
Without hesitation, Thor struck again, hammering lightning into the armor.
Boom!
Sokovia's fall slowed further. Above, Veronica's calculations poured across the Kree mothership's systems, locking onto the city's trajectory.
Boom. Boom.
Closer and closer—2,500 meters… 2,000… 1,000… 500. New York fell silent, its people bracing for the end.
Boom!
The city shook again. In the mothership's cockpit, a red light locked on.
"Sir, Sokovia capture complete. Star Destroyer ready to fire. Countdown: five…"
Veronica's voice filled the Avengers' ears. Hearing the signal, Thor grabbed Tony and carried him away at full speed.
"Avengers, retreat!" Captain America ordered. His shield strapped tight, he launched himself away on the jetstream of Tony's armor. Falcon and War Machine followed fast.
"Star Destroyer—fire!"
The cannon beneath the Kree ship unleashed a torrent of white light, engulfing Sokovia.
The energy shield shattered instantly.
Rumble!
A blinding mushroom cloud erupted from the city's core. The Star Destroyer's destructive power ripped through Sokovia, breaking it apart mid-air.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
Chunks of land disintegrated into dust. Explosions tore across the floating city until only light remained.
Weng—!
A dazzling white brilliance blanketed the sky. Down in New York, people cried in relief. The destructive light also carried hope.
"The meteor's gone!"
"God… did you hear us?"
"We're alive! We survived!"
After a moment of stunned silence, cheers erupted. Looking up, they saw the Avengers in the sky—their saviors once again.
Rumble.
Sokovia vanished in the light. Tony watched it disintegrate, finally letting out a long, heavy sigh.
Boom!
But just as hope swelled, the ground trembled. Hidden beneath Sokovia's ruins, something massive emerged—crashing into downtown New York.
