Ezzor woke up from his bed and looked around quietly. For a moment, he just sat there, doing nothing.
Then he went to the table it was his favorite place, where he spent most of his time.
He opened the drawer, took out his quill and the diary, and opened it.
After that, he picked up his quill and started writing.
'*I've been talking to my sister quite often these days.
She sends me letters sometimes and even some fruits ever since the last year
From her last letter, I learned that she is studying at Sophocles Academy.
She never really mentioned her name, but I found it out from the old lady.
That's all I know her name and that she once lived in this orphanage.
Recently, I got another letter from her. She said she would come to the orphanage soon since her holidays are coming soon.
She also said she wanted to meet me in person and talk face to face instead of through letters.
She feels like a friend… or maybe a big sister.
This past year, I tried to talk to others and be friendly, but most of them stayed away from me.
Some did try to get close, but in the end, they all left too.
It's lonely in this big building with nothing to do.
So I started writing random thoughts in this diary so I wouldn't feel bored. I even wrote a few stories not complete ones, but small pieces that came from my own ideas.
A few days ago, the old lady told me that I could go to the same academy as my big sister.
But for that, I have to pass the exams they're giving.
The theory part is easy, but the physical part might be hard. Still, I'm good at theory.
She said that when we turn twelve, we can awaken our own type of magic.
sister gave a book that explains everything about basic magic.
From what I've read, there are many kinds of magic, but I can only remember a few.
The exam is called "The Trial of Mirrors." I asked the old lady why it's called that, but she said no one really knows. It's just been that way since ancient times.
In the trial, we enter a special area, and a mirror appears in front of us. It breaks into pieces and shows our abilities.
Every person has three abilities. Only two are shown in the trial the third one, we have to find ourselves.
I don't know why I'm this excited, but I really want to learn more. I've always been interested in supernatural powers. Even if I didn't join the Trial of Mirrors, I would still want to know more about them.
In the book my sister gave me, it says that humans can use simple types of magic easily.
Some people who doesn't have magical enegy inside body prefer to use magical artifacts.
They're cheap because they can be found underground, and once they lose power, a mage can fill them again with magic energy.
though it is expensive it can use till a year which is mostly sufficient for the people
I'm really excited for my test. I can't wait to awaken my power.
The test is only two days away.*
After that, Ezzor closed his diary and kept both the book and the quill in the drawer.
He sat quietly again. The room was the only place he lived in. He couldn't go out because everyone saw him as strange.
With nothing else to do, he sat still, thinking about his test that would come in two days.
And then, a bird came near his window.
It had a small paper in its beak.
"There's still time… so why did my sister send a letter so early?" he wondered.
He opened his drawer, took a handful of bird food, and placed it near the bird.
The bird released the letter it had been holding and started eating.
Ezzor picked up the letter and began to read it silently in his mind.
'I'm sorry, Ezzor. It seems I won't be able to meet you during your test.
Yes, I know I said I would come see you during your exam, but I have been given some important work by our professor.
I'm really sorry.'
Ezzor folded the letter and looked at it quietly. Then he said softly, "It's okay. Even if she can't come now, I'll get to see her soon. I'll go meet her at the academy myself."
then the two days happenned so fast in a snap and it was ht e time for the test he had to undertake
Then the two days passed so fast, like a snap, and it was time for the test he had to undertake.
Ezzor was in his room writing in his diary when the old lady entered and called to him, "Ezzor, it's time."
"Okay," replied Ezzor.
Ezzor was a boy of few words; he was like a mute boy, but his mind was quite the opposite.
Then he came down from the chair he was sitting on and followed the old lady outside. All the people were still looking at Ezzor with the same look — it was like they had never come near him. Then he stepped out of the orphanage.
It had been a year since he came to the orphanage, escorted by the knights, and he hadn't left it even once.
A carriage was waiting there, ready to go to the " Trial of Mirrors...
