Chapter 25 - Episode 26: The Hidden Sanctuary

The journey inland took them across jagged cliffs and shadowed forests. The sea was a distant roar behind them, Poseidon's fall leaving the world unsettled. Storms raged more fiercely than before, the sky restless as if Olympus itself trembled with anger.

Achradina led the way, silent and sure-footed, her spear always within reach. The others followed, wary but trusting, their wounds still raw but their determination unbroken.

After two days of hard travel, they reached it—a ruined temple buried deep within the forest. Vines crawled over shattered pillars, and the once-proud statues of gods lay broken, their faces cracked beyond recognition. The air was thick with silence, almost too heavy for mortal lungs.

"This is it?" Adrian asked, frowning as he leaned on his claymore. "This place looks like it's been abandoned for centuries."

Achradina's silver eyes glinted faintly in the dim light. "Appearances deceive. Step carefully. This place is not dead—it only hides itself from Olympus."

Kratos grunted, crossing his arms. "A trick of the old ones. I know it well."

Seraphina's bow was already drawn, her eyes scanning the shadows. Dorian rested his hand on his sword, alert.

Luna, small and pale, stepped closer to Achradina. "So… Athena is here?"

Achradina didn't answer. She raised her spear, pressing the tip gently against one of the cracked statues. The stone groaned, and a soft golden glow spread from the point of contact.

Suddenly, the ruins shifted. Pillars that had seemed broken reformed, walls knit themselves together, and the air filled with a subtle hum of power. The temple came alive, a hidden sanctuary revealed.

And from its heart, she appeared.

---

Athena did not arrive in a blaze of light or thunder. She stepped from the shadows, her armor gleaming faintly with bronze, her dark hair bound, her eyes sharp and steady. There was no grandeur in her presence, yet the weight of her wisdom pressed on all of them like a tide.

"Achradina," she said softly, her voice calm and measured. "You have brought them."

Achradina lowered her spear and bowed her head. "As agreed."

The others stiffened. Seraphina's eyes widened, her bow trembling slightly in her hands. Adrian's grip on his claymore tightened, his whole body taut with disbelief. Dorian's jaw clenched, his blade half-drawn.

Kratos' face hardened, his voice like gravel. "So it's true. Athena herself walks among us."

Athena's gaze moved across them, lingering briefly on each one before finally resting on Luna. Her expression softened, though it was no less serious.

"And so the corpse-child stands before me. The one who has undone both War and Sea."

Luna shifted uncomfortably, clutching her gauntlets. "You… you really are with us?"

A silence fell. The weight of the question hung heavy in the sanctuary.

Athena stepped closer, her footsteps echoing softly against the stone. Her eyes gleamed with something unreadable—perhaps pity, perhaps calculation.

"I am with no one," she said finally. "But I see the threads of fate. I see where they pull. Olympus rots from within. My father's tyranny blinds him. My siblings drown themselves in arrogance and cruelty. The age of the Olympians falters… and you, strange child, are the blade meant to cut it down."

The words sent a shiver through the group.

Adrian's voice cracked with tension. "So you admit it. You've been helping us this whole time. Why? What do you gain from this?"

Athena's lips curved faintly. "Wisdom is not about gaining—it is about seeing clearly. I do not serve you. I do not serve Olympus. I serve what must be."

Kratos growled low in his throat. "Hmph. Words of a schemer."

Athena's eyes flicked toward him, sharp as daggers. "And yet you stand here alive because of my silence. Do not mistake strategy for cowardice, Ghost of Sparta."

The tension cracked like a bowstring. Seraphina stepped forward quickly, her voice cutting through the hostility.

"If you are truly with us, then prove it. Tell us how we reach Hades. None of us can enter the Underworld alone."

Athena studied her, then glanced toward Achradina. The goddess of victory—Nike beneath her false name—stood silent, her eyes locked with Athena's in a silent exchange. Finally, Athena inclined her head.

"There is a path," she said. "But it is not one mortals can walk unaided. There is a gateway hidden deep in the earth, older than Olympus itself. It will lead you directly into the realm of Hades. But once you cross, there is no turning back."

Her gaze fell on Luna again, steady and piercing. "You must understand, child. Hades is not like Ares or Poseidon. He will not be lured into foolish rage. He is patient, cunning, and his dominion is absolute. Every soul that has ever lived bends to his will. Even gods fear his halls."

Luna swallowed, but she did not look away. "Then we'll face him. Like we faced the others."

Athena's lips curved again, the faintest trace of a smile. "So you say."

---

Adrian stepped forward, his voice sharp. "And what about you? Will you fight with us? Or will you sit here, hiding, while we bleed and die?"

Athena's expression turned cold. "My role is not to fight. If I stood at your side openly, Olympus would see through me at once. My silence would be shattered, and every god would descend upon you. I remain hidden so you may strike where they do not expect."

Her voice deepened, her tone edged with steel. "But do not mistake that for inaction. I will guide you. I will open the path. And when the time is right, Olympus will discover where my loyalty lies."

The sanctuary pulsed faintly with power, the air vibrating with her words.

Achradina finally spoke, her voice calm but firm. "That is enough. We asked for a way into Hades' realm. We have it. That is all we need."

Athena nodded, lifting her hand. A golden shimmer appeared before them, forming the outline of a gate. The stone beneath their feet shook faintly as the air thickened with death's cold breath.

"The entrance waits in the caverns beneath this land," Athena said. "Follow the path, and you will find it. But beware—the guardians of the gate are ancient, and they will not yield easily. Only those who have faced death without fear may pass."

Her eyes locked with Luna's one last time. "You, more than any, belong in that place."

The little zombie girl clenched her fists. She didn't know if it was comfort or a curse, but she accepted it all the same.

---

As the golden shimmer faded, Athena turned away, retreating into the shadows.

"Go now," she said. "The storm gathers. Olympus sharpens its blades. And Hades waits in his halls."

With that, she vanished into the darkness, leaving only silence and the weight of her words.

The group stood together in the sanctuary, the faint hum of ancient power surrounding them. Their next path was clear, and it led straight into the Underworld.

Seraphina let out a slow breath. "Well. It seems we really do have a goddess on our side."

Kratos grunted. "Or a serpent in the grass. Time will tell."

Luna looked at the place where Athena had stood. Her heart was heavy, but her resolve had never been stronger.

"Then let's find the gate," she whispered.

And so their march toward death began.
