Chapter 5 - Episode 6: The Vampire in the Tower

The road forked beneath the fading light. Luna's cloudy eyes lingered on the ruined tower rising against the hills, its jagged stones glowing orange in the sunset. Something about it pulled at her, like a whisper calling from long ago.

She chose the tower.

The climb was steep, her legs stiff and awkward, but she pressed on until the last rays of sun slipped away. By the time she reached the crumbling base, the world was drenched in silver moonlight.

The tower loomed like a broken tooth, its walls cracked, ivy crawling up its stones. A great door sagged on its hinges, creaking as Luna pushed it open. Inside, the air smelled of dust and old parchment.

She stepped carefully across the rubble-strewn floor. A torn tapestry hung from the wall, showing a faded crest: a silver bat on a midnight field. Luna tilted her head. Something about it felt… familiar, though she couldn't say why.

Then she heard it. A low, smooth voice from the shadows above.

"You walk without breath. Your heart does not beat. And yet…"

A figure dropped gracefully from the ruined staircase, landing lightly before her. He was tall, pale, with sharp features that glimmered in the moonlight filtering through the broken roof. His eyes were crimson, but not cruel—they studied her with a strange curiosity. A long cloak draped around him like wings.

Luna stumbled back, fear prickling her skin. "You… human?" she rasped.

The man smiled faintly, his fangs catching the light. "Hardly. I am called Adrian. And you, little gravewalker… you are far from ordinary."

Luna's fingers curled at her sides. She remembered the villagers' shouts, their stones, Elias's fall. "I'm… monster," she whispered, ashamed.

Adrian tilted his head, his crimson eyes softening. "If you are a monster, then so am I. The humans call me vampire. They fear me. Hunt me. Much as they do you."

For the first time since Elias, Luna felt something stir—a flicker of recognition. He was different too. Hated, feared… yet still alive.

Adrian knelt before her, bringing his gaze level with hers. "Tell me, little one. What is your name?"

"L… Luna."

"A name touched by the night," he murmured. "Fitting." He stood again, his cloak swaying like shadow. "The world will not be kind to you. Alone, you will be hunted. But together… perhaps we might walk farther than either of us could alone."

Luna blinked. "Together?"

Adrian's smile returned, gentle but sharp. "Yes. I will protect you, little Luna. In return, perhaps you will remind me of something I thought long lost."

"What?" she asked softly.

He looked toward the broken window where the moon shone full and bright. "…Hope."

For the first time since Elias's death, Luna's lips trembled into a tiny smile. She nodded, slowly but surely.

And so, beneath the ruined tower and the silver light of the moon, the little zombie girl and the vampire outcast began their journey together—two creatures of darkness, searching for a place where even monsters might belong.
