Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Entering the Hive

"What are you doing? I'm a police officer! You can't do this to me!"

The restrained man, Matt Addison from the original story who intended to infiltrate the Hive to find his sister, struggled and shouted.

The strike team only took orders from Captain James. They ignored Matt, punched him once, bent his arms behind his back, and handcuffed him.

Captain James walked over to the other woman, the protagonist Alice, whose identity had been confirmed, attempting to get some information from her.

However, Alice had amnesia and couldn't remember anything, forcing him to give up questioning her.

Meanwhile, the electronics expert Chad, holding the police ID found on Matt, ran a network search and discovered no records of him. He reported to Captain James,

"Captain, there's no record of this person in the Raccoon City Police Department's files."

Captain James walked over with a grim expression, pulled out his pistol, and pressed it against Matt's head.

"Tell me, who are you really?"

"I'm a newly transferred officer. They probably haven't had time to file my records yet. I really am a police officer."

To save his own life, Matt made another effort to bluff his way through.

"The local PD is short-staffed. What he says is possible, boss. What should we do? Kill him or let him go?" After hearing Matt's excuse, Chad asked for Captain James's opinion.

"Bring him along. We're entering the main base."

Captain James gave Matt a cold look, temporarily believing him. However, he didn't let him go, choosing to take both him and Alice into the Hive.

Although Uchiha Kazuhiko knew the plot, he didn't expose Matt's identity, nor did he feel overly sympathetic and try to persuade Captain James to let him go.

He simply watched everything unfold silently, as the other's survival had little to do with his mission.

Under Captain James's lead, the group opened the giant electronic gate beneath the villa, entered the underground train station, boarded the train heading to the Hive, and also discovered Spence Parks hiding in the train compartment the one responsible for the T-virus leak.

Seizing the opportunity while everyone was questioning Spence, Uchiha Kazuhiko quietly entered the compartment and stored the case containing the T-virus and antivirals into his system space.

After the strike team confirmed Spence was a Umbrella employee, they decided to take him to the Hive as well.

"Off the train! Stay alert!"

The train slowly stopped in a warehouse-like area. Captain James jumped off first, raising his semi-automatic rifle to observe cautiously everything around him.

The other team members followed suit, only allowing Alice and the others to disembark after confirming the area was secure.

The entrance to the Hive was blocked by an electronic door marked with the Umbrella logo and a biohazard symbol.

The electronics expert Chad took out some data cables, connected them to the electronic lock, and began cracking the door's password.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the amnesiac Alice approached Uchiha Kazuhiko, who seemed much more approachable compared to the strike team members, and asked,

"I want to know who you are? And what exactly happened here?"

Uchiha Kazuhiko glanced at her and explained patiently,

"We are Umbrella Corporation employees, just like you. This door leads to the 'Hive'. You are the corporation's entrance security personnel, which is why we brought you along to enter the Hive."

"The Hive? What's that?"

Spence, who also had amnesia, pressed.

"The Hive is a top-secret research facility deep underground. It houses over five hundred scientists and other staff who research certain confidential products according to the corporation's needs."

Captain James, hearing their conversation, pressed a few buttons on his mini-computer, then pointed to the displayed image for them to see, explaining on behalf of Uchiha Kazuhiko:

"This is the access tunnel into the Hive. This is the villa we came from earlier. There, we boarded the train into the underground. Our current location is the entrance to the Hive."

After digesting this information, Alice asked again,

"Why did I lose my memory? I can't remember anything now."

Just as Captain James finished explaining they lost their memories due to the poison gas released by the Red Queen, the electronics expert Chad successfully cracked the door's password.

The door gradually opened under computer control, revealing a pitch-black hall.

A team member put on night-vision goggles, entered the room, and turned on the lights. The room gradually brightened, and the electronic wall windows simulated the cityscape between skyscrapers on the surface.

Captain James opened the elevator door on the right side of the hall but found the elevator was broken. To reach the Red Queen's location, they had to take the stairs on the other side.

The mission time was only three hours. After that, the giant electronic gate in the villa would close, trapping everyone inside.

They had to shut down the Red Queen and retrieve the motherboard within three hours; otherwise, they could only wait for the next Umbrella rescue team.

"It seems we have to take the stairs. Everyone, pick up the pace. We must reach the bottom level within ten minutes."

After studying the map again, Captain James decisively released a new order, escorting the handcuffed Matt towards the stairs.

They quickly descended the stairs to the floor housing the Red Queen, only to find the research rooms on both sides of the corridor flooded.

The pale, bloated corpses of researchers floated inside, creating an extremely eerie and terrifying atmosphere.

Furthermore, these flooded research rooms were part of the route needed to reach the Red Queen.

Now submerged, passing through would require spending a significant amount of time cracking the room passwords to open the doors and drain the water.

Captain James ordered Chad to find an alternate route and informed everyone that the Red Queen had sealed the Hive and used the internal defense systems to kill the researchers.

"Sir, found another route. We take another passage, go through the B Dining room, and we can reach the destination from there. But it might take twice as long."

Chad, always being ordered around by Captain James, returned and reported the scouted route.

"Good, then we'll—"

"Wait, Captain James."

Captain James was just about to order everyone to the new route when he was interrupted by Uchiha Kazuhiko, who had been silent until now.

Seeing everyone looking at him puzzled, Uchiha Kazuhiko explained to Captain James,

"Headquarters also ordered me to execute a secret command at the virus refrigeration room on this level. So I need your help to unlock the refrigeration room's password."

Going to the virus refrigeration room was an idea Uchiha Kazuhiko had after seeing the Hive's actual scale.

Such a massive underground space couldn't possibly only have the few viruses and antivirals Spence stole.

He decided to gamble that the refrigeration room definitely had more viruses and antivirals.

"The refrigeration room is the third room on the right. Requires three password unlocks to enter."

Due to the identity the system had arranged for Uchiha Kazuhiko, Captain James didn't suspect him.

After finding the route to the virus refrigeration room on the electronic map, he frowned and asked,

"Chad, how long to unlock the password?"

"Boss, barring accidents, it'll take about half an hour."

Although confident in his computer skills, facing the powerful Red Queen, Chad didn't dare promise a shorter time.

"Half an hour... should be manageable. Chad, proceed immediately."

After hearing Chad's estimate, Captain James agreed to help Uchiha Kazuhiko complete his task.

"Okay." Chad agreed, immediately taking out his tools to unlock the laboratory on the right.

Click.

A little over ten minutes later, the first door on the right opened, and murky sewage water flowed out into the corridor.

Uchiha Kazuhiko was the first to step into the research room.

Under the puzzled gazes of everyone, he drew his katana and with one swing, decapitated the corpse inside.

"Stop it, you bastard! What are you doing?!"

Witnessing Uchiha Kazuhiko treating the dead so cruelly, Alice immediately angrily tried to stop him.

The others also couldn't understand Uchiha Kazuhiko's act of desecrating the dead.

Their looks towards him became displeased, and the atmosphere grew tense instantly.
