Chapter 8 - The distorted history

"Then you are permitted access only to this floor and the one above. The lower floors are strictly off limits." She closed the register with a snap. "As for history, there's a small section on this floor, though it's not very comprehensive. The upper floor, Section-4, has a much larger collection—you may find what you're looking for there."

Without another word, she returned to her sorting.

Shun wasted no time. He climbed the stairs, heading straight for Section-4. His heart pounded as he scanned the shelves until his eyes landed on a thick tome titled The Origin of Chakra.

He seized it eagerly, settled at a nearby table, and opened the first page. Anticipation building in his heart.

-----------

Shun flipped the pages slowly, reading the content written on them. After a few pages his brows furrowed. He started flipping faster, his expression growing more discontent by the second.

Suddenly, he slammed the book shut, his face sour. Why do they even have such a useless book in the library? It just repeats the same thing from different perspectives—that chakra existed in humans for a long time, but they didn't know how to use it until fifteen hundred years ago, when a man people called the "Miraculous Sage" appeared and taught them. That's it!.

He rubbed his head. Nothing is specified about where he came from, his description, anything at all. Just a stupid fairy tale for kids.

He stood and shoved the book roughly back into its compartment. I'll find books on the Warring States Era or the First Shinobi War. And if there's still nothing useful, then it means this information isn't meant for the public.

While browsing, he stumbled upon three books—The World's Geography, The Formation of Hidden Villages, and The Shinobi Wars. He carried them back to his table, quietly picking up The Shinobi Wars first.

As he flipped through the thick volume, he grew engrossed. Hmm… this doesn't have the exact information I wanted, but it contains things I didn't know.

Pulling out a notepad, he began jotting down. So, the fight between the Uchiha and Senju went on for centuries, ending only when the Senju defeated us during the Warring Era. They had support from powerful clans like the Uzumaki, Hyūga, and the Nara-Yamanaka-Akimichi. But there's no mention of who supported our clan. Later Hashirama ended the Warring era and established the vilage system.

He rubbed his chin, skipping the smaller details and jumping directly to the chapter on the First Shinobi War.

His face grew astonished as he read, and his pen moved quickly: Twelve years after Konoha's founding, information leaked that a dangerous treasure had fallen into Kumogakure's hands. The details are vague, but the descriptions hint at a tailed beast. Madara and Hashirama personally rushed there, which supports the theory.

Shun tapped his chin, eyes drifting to the ceiling. But Hashirama was supposed to have captured the tailed beasts and distributed them. They existed since Hagoromo's time. So why aren't they mentioned in the Warring States Era chapter? Or maybe I jumped to the wrong conclusion about the "treasure" being a beast… ugh, so annoying.

He ruffled his hair in frustration, but forced himself to keep writing: After the deaths of Hashirama and Madara during an ambush in Year 13, they took down the three Kages--Raikage, Mizukage, tsuchikage and hundreds of elite shinobi with them.

After that, Tobirama took the reins of Konoha, leading it through five years of war before securing victory. Later, when returning from negotiations in Kumo with his team—Hiruzen, Danzō, Kagami, and the others—he was ambushed by rouge Kinkaku and 12 elite S rank Kumo shinobis. He sacrificed himself, passing the Hokage title to Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Shun frowned, comparing. This is different from the anime. The sequence is the same, but the details aren't. In the anime, Tobirama died to Kinkaku and Ginkaku. But here it says Ginkaku was already killed by Hashirama and Madara during their ambush, while Tobirama killed Kinkaku himself. He might have attacked Tobirama for revenge.

A sigh escaped his lips as he tried to sort fact from memory. His unfocused gaze drifted to the window, the sunlight dimming. Damn!already past noon. Aunt told me to come for lunch. His stomach growled in agreement.

I'll just write down the time period of each Hokage.

He flipped to a blank page in his notepad:

Konoha Year 0 — Hashirama Senju

Konoha Year 13 — Tobirama Senju

Konoha Year 18 — Hiruzen Sarutobi

Closing the notepad, he thought, And this is Konoha Year 29. A mysterious smile tugged at his lips. Well I got too much time till the main casts comes to existence..hell, they might not come into being.. due to all these changes. Haah! Such a mess.

With the three books in hand, he descended the stairs and placed them on the librarian's desk.

"Miss, I want to borrow these."

She glanced at him, her face unreadable. "The rule is you can only take one book, but if you pay twenty ryō for each extra, you may borrow them."

"How long can I keep them?" he asked politely.

"Fourteen days. If you fail to return them or damage them, the fine is one hundred ryō."

Without hesitation, Shun handed her a hundred-ryō bill. She returned the change, noting his entry in the register.

With the books tucked under his arm, he left the library and walked toward his aunt's house, already anticipating lunch.
