Chapter 89 - Ch.89

"Byerley," Luo Cheng asked, sitting beside her in the virtual reality machine. "Besides me, are there any other players in this world?"

"From the current information, it's pretty much impossible," she replied.

"Why?"

"First, both the game world and the real world have VR devices, and their data is interconnected. Little Lamb, you know we Three Goddesses have the authority to read other people's minds. So far, there's no information about the game world in anyone's mind."

"Is it possible those people just haven't entered yet?"

"I can't say it's impossible. Our database has information on all the trainers and over ninety percent of the horse girls. If there were another player, they would have to be in that remaining ten percent of horse girls, but the probability is very small. Considering your actions in the game world, if she saw you messing around with horse girls outside, she wouldn't be indifferent."

"True. And you're so blunt..."

"This way, the meaning is clearest. You're not shy because I'm blunt, are you, Little Lamb? You weren't shy when you ran outside naked to vent."

"I don't even know what being shy feels like anymore. I'm just annoyed at you blatantly reading my mind."

"I apologize, but this is the most efficient method. Instead of waiting for you to tell me, I'd rather just look for myself."

Among the Three Goddesses, Byerley seemed the most reliable. She didn't have the flirtatious playfulness of Darley or the soft, helpless air of Godolphin that made you want to bully her. In both her speech and actions, Byerley was matter-of-fact. This made her the most dependable one among the fun-seekers. If Luo Cheng had a problem, he would ask her for help, but he wouldn't completely trust her. The Three Goddesses were who they were; their nature wouldn't change. Instead of helping others solve problems, they preferred to make things interesting.

"Fine, look then." Luo Cheng was too lazy to argue with them. The Three Goddesses watched his memories with relish, treating him like a creator of adult comics. None of these three were normal.

Just like him.

"I think even if someone's consciousness can reach the game world, she shouldn't be a player. She doesn't have the ability to perform system operations like you. She can only be aware; she can't make changes. In game terms... she's more like an audience member, a spectator watching this game from the sidelines."

"Just like you?"

"That's right... ahem, we're not spectators, Little Lamb. We're your companions."

"I almost believed you."

"I know you're not happy with what we do, but we can't help it. It's our nature. Our nature is to love interesting things, just like you."

"I'm not a fun-seeker."

"I know. But you like pretty girls, right? When you see them, you can't control yourself. It's the seven passions and six desires. Humans can't fight their own desires. You can't be a saint in this world, and we are the same. Seeking fun is our way of life."

Her red pupils watched Luo Cheng without a hint of a filter. In her serious gaze, Luo Cheng felt the same way he did with Darley and Godolphin.

That's right. Byerley is also one of the Three Goddesses. She's the same as the other two; she just has a different personality.

But she was right. He couldn't, and wouldn't, be a saint here. The kinds of things he was doing were commonplace.

"I'm not saying this to make excuses for us. I just want to tell you, Little Lamb, that our positions are the same. As long as you have a request, we will help you without holding back."

Looking at Byerley's serious face, Luo Cheng's mood improved. It wasn't that he hated the Three Goddesses. He wasn't like this because of them—at least, not the ones in this world. Luo Cheng just hated that the Three Goddesses added fuel to an already chaotic situation, making it impossible for him to figure out what was going on. If they didn't cause so much trouble, Luo Cheng would actually like them. Just like that time he went fishing with Darley, the Three Goddesses were great companions.

Byerley pinched her chin, her red eyes subtly staring at Luo Cheng.

Oh...

Darley's affection boost was quite significant. It actually changed his impression of the entire Three Goddesses.

It seems being too aggressive with Little Lamb isn't good. Sometimes, a gentle approach is necessary.

Luo Cheng stood up. "An audience member, you say? If that's the case, it's worth a look. To see if there's any loose fish left in this game world."

"Do you have a way, Little Lamb?"

"...No."

It would be too difficult for him to find a camera that might not even exist. And who could guarantee that the camera wasn't a fun-seeker as well?

Luo Cheng was really afraid of fun now.

"If you want to look, it's not impossible. It just depends on whether that person is willing to help you."

"Who?"

"Why, the ghost attached to you, of course."

By the time Luo Cheng emerged from the VR machine, it was already afternoon. He looked at the busy green figure in front of the device and remembered the question he had unintentionally brought up.

Are there any other normal people in this world besides him?

The answer was a little disappointing. Fortunately, the Three Goddesses reminded him that he could ask the ghost for help.

The ghost... Manhattan Cafe's friend. Ever since the last support card story ended, Luo Cheng had been looking for her, but he hadn't found any clues. He didn't know if she was deliberately staying away or if she couldn't come out. She was the one who forced him to exit the story review last time, and then she disappeared without a trace.

If you wanted to get through the story so badly, why didn't you come out and help!

Luo Cheng felt like he was fighting a lone battle, and everyone else was just cheering him on from the sidelines.

I don't want to carry this team; I want to just relax and do nothing!

But he couldn't. Because he was the 'player.' A game without a player isn't a game. Without him, this world wouldn't change at all.

All Luo Cheng could do now was move forward. Before, he didn't even know what he was doing. Now, he felt like he had too much to do.

I'm so tired.

Luo Cheng lay on the bed and closed his eyes. He just wanted to sleep without thinking about anything.

He felt something next to him. Luo Cheng opened his eyes a little and saw Tazuna Hayakawa standing beside his bed, her clear, emerald-green eyes looking at him.

"Do you want to sleep too, Tazuna?"

"..."

Luo Cheng moved over, and Tazuna Hayakawa lay on the bed. He wrapped his arms around her soft waist and buried his face in her spacious chest, sniffing her alluring scent. Luo Cheng mumbled, "Tazuna, Uma Musume really is a prison sentence of a game..."

He knew he couldn't keep going if he didn't find some fun for himself.

Luo Cheng suddenly felt that being a fun-seeker might not be so bad after all.
