Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Dating?

Brax Swan POV

The next few days in Forks passed in their usual gray blur, clouds smothering the sky. What once felt monotonous now gave me something to look forward to—Alice. With her back at school, we spent every lunch in my car, bouncing between pure comedy and deeper, more personal talks. By Friday, I finally worked up the nerve, "Alice, would you mind if I grabbed your number?" She already had her hand out, smiling like she'd been waiting for it. I handed her my cheap plastic phone, and she added her number before the lunch bell cut us short. As we stepped out of my car and started toward our classes, Alice paused, "Call me," she said simply, her smile daring me to overthink it. That was the push I needed.

As I slid out of Brax's car, relief warmed me—he'd finally asked for my number. I'd wanted more time with him since the day my family and I "went hiking." My visions had been teasing me, showing him hesitating, circling the thought but never committing. If I'd left him to his doubts, he might have spent the entire weekend wondering if he should call. I couldn't risk that. His presence filled a gap I'd carried for decades, the last puzzle piece finally sliding into place. I wished I could just tell him outright "we're soulmates". But Brax knew nothing of my world, and I wasn't about to scare him away. Unlike Edward, I wouldn't resist if Brax ever chose my world. And unlike Bella, his future wasn't so easily read. Even at my clearest, the long-term path ahead of him was like trying to spot a distant star behind shifting clouds—always there, but impossible to focus on. Still, I could feel him in my future, and that was enough.

The day ended and I headed out to the S13, slipping ahead of the usual parking lot chaos. Passing the familiar silver Volvo, I caught Alice just getting in. She waved, and I waved back before rolling home. That evening, I slipped back into routine: a check on the car, a round of weights, then family dinner. My bench was up to 270 for reps now—though I hadn't tested a true max without a spotter. My body didn't look bulkier, just sharper, stronger. Sometimes I wondered if Alice would notice, or even care. Later, I sat on the edge of my bed, phone in hand, debating. Should I ask her to hang out? Was it too soon? Finally, I decided to stop second-guessing and sent a text: "if you want to, I'll plan something tonight". She simply replied, "no, I'll plan something. Here's my address XXXXXXX, XXXXX,XXXXX pick me up at 2pm. <3". Knowing I'd see Alice tomorrow afternoon I slept soundly, while still excited for the coming day.

Author's Note: Sorry about the one chapter day. My goal is one a day, but I've been pushing for two to three. This is a result of the issues I had with the novel getting blocked because I uploaded it as a novel and not a fanfic. It is all sorted now. So if you enjoy continue reading and add it to your collection. Thank you!
