Chapter 28 - Chapter 30 – Seeds of Rivalry

Chapter 30 – Seeds of Rivalry

The crystalline colossus moved, its every step grinding shards into dust. Gravity bent toward its glowing core, pulling loose fragments into a whirling orbit.

Raynar's grin widened. "Now that's a worthy beast." His kinetic barriers folded into gauntlets, crackling with raw energy.

Redmond's Vermilion aura contracted, thin and sharp, tracing invisible patterns into the air. His voice remained calm. "If you rush it, you'll feed it."

Raynar shot him a look. "Or I'll break it before it grows."

Observer Chamber – Noble Youths

A faint stir ran through the gallery as the colossus emerged. The prominent clans had not come alone; each patriarch or matron had brought an heir with clearance, a shadowed reminder that the next generation was always watching.

Darius Nox's son, Kaelen Nox, leaned forward. His hair was ink-dark, his gaze sharp with quiet arrogance. "Raynar's path is the obvious one. Power answers power." His words carried the weight of someone who had never doubted his own superiority.

Beside Lady Veyra, her daughter Selene Veyra observed with detached calm, a slender circlet glowing faintly with psionic resonance. She spoke softly, but her words cut. "Obvious paths often end in walls. Redmond reads the field; Raynar charges through it."

Garron Stroud's heir, Tiran Stroud, a broad-shouldered youth in plain martial garb, barked a laugh. "Walls break. That's the point."

From the Dorne delegation, Magnus Dorne adjusted the crystalline monocle at his eye, the faint glow reflecting the Rift. "Breaks, yes — but at what efficiency? Look at Redmond's containment work. That's not brute force, that's system design."

Matron Ilyra Caelith rested a hand lightly on the shoulder of her niece, Liora Caelith, a soft-spoken girl in healer's whites. Her brow furrowed as she watched Raynar absorb more essence. "That glow in his veins… it spreads faster than I expected. Dangerous. His channels could rupture if pushed."

At the rear, Varik Teyne's ward, Corin Teyne, remained still, shadow-eyed and unreadable. His tone was cool, almost amused. "Or he adapts. The Blutz Vein is raw, unstable, yes… but instability breeds evolution. He either breaks — or becomes something greater."

Finally, at the far side of the gallery, the Aurelith Clan had sent their heir, Ryn Aurelith — flame-haired, aura shimmering faintly with heat distortion. He smirked faintly, arms crossed. "Both twins fight as though the Rift owes them something. We shall see if it teaches them humility instead."

---

Rift – Clash with the Colossus

The beast roared, its core flaring. Fragments in its orbit shot outward like meteors.

Raynar charged, barriers widening into a kinetic wall that deflected the first barrage. He laughed as shards shattered against his field. "Is that all?" His gauntlets slammed into the beast's limb, cracks spidering along its crystalline frame.

Redmond remained at distance, his Vermilion aura thinning into threads, slicing through incoming shards with surgical precision. Each cut left fragments intact, which he carefully directed into containment. His eyes never left the beast's pulsing core.

"Elira," one councilor whispered nervously, "is this not too much for them?"

Her answer was cool, calculated. "If they cannot adapt here, they cannot step onto the Fog Beast Continent. This Rift is trial, not execution."

Observer Reactions – Youth Rivalries

Kaelen Nox sneered. "Raynar already has it pinned. A true heir shows dominance."

Selene Veyra arched a brow. "Dominance? He is trading stability for spectacle. Do you not see how his aura bleeds with every strike?"

Tiran Stroud leaned forward, grinning. "Spectacle wins wars. Nobody sings songs about tidy containment."

Magnus Dorne smirked faintly, muttering, "Songs don't power Rift engines."

Ryn Aurelith's smirk sharpened as he studied Redmond. "That one… he fights as if fire lies caged in his blood. Careful, deliberate, but fire caged too long burns the vessel."

Corin Teyne, silent until now, added softly, "Or it waits for the moment when the world is weakest, and then consumes it whole."

The heirs' words fell like seeds on fertile ground, each reflecting not only judgment of the twins — but of one another. Rivalries, alliances, futures quietly taking root.

Brothers in Tandem

The crystalline colossus swung, its massive limb shearing through the cavern wall. Shards cascaded like meteors, each glowing with volatile energy.

Raynar didn't flinch. His barriers folded, reshaped — a kinetic bulwark that absorbed the shockwave. The ground fractured beneath his boots, but his stance didn't waver.

Behind him, Redmond's Vermilion aura flared into threads, catching fragments that slipped through Raynar's defense. Each thread bent, cut, and stored shards into containment with surgical precision.

Neither spoke. They didn't need to.

Raynar lunged forward, kinetic gauntlets slamming into the colossus' chest. The impact rippled outward in concentric waves, staggering the beast. At the same instant, Redmond shifted, his aura lashing upward like a crimson blade, slicing into the joint Raynar had exposed.

The colossus howled, crystalline veins splintering under their combined assault.

Observer Chamber – Silence and Awe

Gasps filled the gallery. Even the heirs fell silent for a moment as the two brothers moved — not as rivals, but as partners.

Selene Veyra's voice was hushed. "No words… yet they strike as one."

Tiran Stroud clenched his fists, his grin fading into something closer to respect. "That… is battlefield instinct."

Magnus Dorne's monocle flickered with data runes as he leaned closer. "Do you see the resonance patterns? Their energies… harmonize, rather than conflict."

Elira's eyes sharpened, her lips pressed thin. So. When unbound by rivalry, they do not divide — they amplify.

Aldrich's posture remained steady, but a faint glint lit his eyes. "This is what it means to be Red'lux."

Rift – Escalation

The colossus retaliated, its core flaring brighter. Gravitational waves rippled outward, pulling debris into deadly orbit.

Raynar struck first — barriers snapping into spears, which he hurled with explosive force. The orbit faltered as the beast staggered back. Redmond surged in, his Vermilion aura coiling into a whip, cracking against its crystalline veins, unraveling the energy lines within.

Together, they dismantled it piece by piece. Where Raynar broke, Redmond refined. Where Redmond dissected, Raynar drove forward.

At last, the colossus dropped to one knee, its core exposed, flickering like a dying star. Victory was a breath away.

Then the ground shuddered.

Another roar erupted — deeper, heavier. From the far side of the cavern, a second colossus emerged, larger, its core blazing with uncontained fury.

Observer Chamber – Shockwaves

Councilors surged to their feet.

"This wasn't in the parameters!"

"Two colossi? Impossible for C-class designation!"

Kaelen Nox's smirk widened. "Then let us see which heir can truly endure."

Liora Caelith clutched her robes, whispering, "Their bodies cannot withstand this much strain for long."

Corin Teyne's tone was calm, almost pleased. "No… but their minds might. Watch."

Elira said nothing. Her hands clasped at her waist, her gaze unblinking. Inside, every calculation raced — how far the twins could be pushed before intervention became necessary. And if they break… which one rises from the fracture?

Rift – The Breaking Point

The second colossus thundered forward, joining the first in a devastating pincer. The cavern shook, fragments raining like meteors.

Raynar's barriers expanded into a dome, catching the simultaneous strikes — cracks spread across the field, threatening collapse. Redmond's Vermilion aura lanced outward, severing incoming projectiles, his movements sharp but more urgent now.

Breaths grew heavier. Their synchronization strained but held. Every strike landed, every counter came just in time. But the colossi endured, cores pulsing brighter.

Raynar's teeth gritted as the dome splintered. "We can't drag this out much longer."

Redmond's gaze flickered, his aura dimming, then compressing, sharper than before. His voice, calm but edged with finality:

"Then we stop limiting ourselves."

For an instant, the Vermilion glow around him deepened, shifting in hue — something heavier, more primal, coiling beneath restraint.

The colossi roared. The cavern shook. The air itself seemed to hold its breath.
