My heart rate picked up.
What was he doing here?
He knocked again — this time it came as a bang. I flinched when he continued to pound.
"Bambi, open up."
I paced back and forth, unsure what to do. Then an idea clicked. I went to the drawer, grabbed a bottle of cologne and sprayed almost the entire thing in the bedroom as the banging continued.
Sable eyed me curiously. "What are you—?"
"Shh." I cut her off, guided her toward the closet and shoved her inside.
"Stay right here. Don't make a sound. Try not to breathe hard, okay?"
She wanted to reply, but I shut the closet door in her face, adjusted my dress and moved to answer the door.
Alpha Dawn stood by the door, his hand frozen mid-air, ready to land another knock. He frowned and sauntered in, dressed in a cream-colored cardigan, T-shirt and cream-colored pants.
I gently shut the door, watching him assess the room.
He pinched his nose, turned and raised a brow at me. I swallowed.
"Why did you spray so much cologne?"
