And then it was gone, like everyone was awakening from a haze.
Rafael stood, letter in hand. "I have to go; there is a lot to be done."
Julian looked at Viktor, he was leaving too. He didn't want them to leave.
It was like being pulled away from a good dream.

Rafael had been in his office just a few minutes before there was a knock on his door.
He looked up from the dusty old tomes. "Come in," he called out.
He was not too surprised to see Lydia. Elijah was behind her.
She nodded at him. "Greetings, Rafael," she said by way of greeting.
Rafael acknowledged her with a nod. He gestured for her to take a seat.
She walked forward to take a seat, and Elijah bowed and closed the door as he left.
Rafael focused his full attention on Lydia.
Her appearance was as regal and precise as she had always presented herself. Her hair was in a slicked-back bun, which somehow made her ice-blue irises pop.
She fixed that cold gaze on Rafael.
Rafael held her gaze.
