Chapter 15 - The Strength Of Others

Pamela walked deeper into the sterile hallway, her footsteps echoing against the metal floor The air was heavy with the scent of soil and chemicals. She froze when she heard shuffling ahead. Out of the dim light, two more of the plant-humans appeared. Their helmets were fogged with green liquid, hiding twisted faces that pressed faintly against the glass. Their movements were twitchy, jerking forward in a grotesque form of life. The hostility radiating from them pressed against Pamela's mind, undeniable. Pamela's eyes narrowed with ruthlesnes.

Her voice was sharp, bitter. "How many people did the professor abduct?" She clenched her fists, her teeth grit as realization sank in. "So that's why all those homeless are disappearing from campus…" She straightened her back, her tone dropping into something colder, darker. "But no matter what. I'll kill all of them. Every single one of you that comes near me." Her chin lifted, defiance etched across her face. "I will no longer be a weak woman."

The Midnight Rose pulsed on her wrist, its thorns loosening and twisting outward. The bracelet unfurled into a long, sinuous whip lined with razor sharp thorns, alive with hunger. Pamela extended her hand without hesitation. "Let's do this."

With a sound like a gunshot, the whip lashed out. It tore through the chest of the first creature, piercing straight through its heart. A spray of green fluid splattered across the floor. But the attack didn't end there. The whip detached in mid-air, curving backwards like it had a will of its own, before spearing directly into the chest of the second hybrid. Both enemies convulsed, their bodies jerking violently as the vine tightened.

The whip curled around them, thorns burrowing deep into their flesh. Pamela gasped, her eyes widening as the pull began. A rush of vitality streamed up the length of the vine, flooding into her body. Her veins throbbed with warmth, her breath quickening as strength, clarity, and something intoxicating filled her chest. She shuddered, unable to stop the low gasp that escaped her throat as the stolen energy bound itself to her.

The creatures collapsed. Their helmets shattered as the life drained out of them, glass breaking against the floor. Their bodies shriveled up, collapsing into husks that barely resembled people anymore. Pamela flicked her wrist, and the whip recoiled sharply, winding back into itself until it rested once more on her wrist in its dormant bracelet form.

She stared down at her hand. Her skin glowed faintly green, the aura of the vitality still radiating through her. Pamela clenched her fist, feeling power coursing through her veins. "I'm becoming stronger and stronger from feeding off the vitality of other human beings…" She looked down at the Midnight Rose, the vines pulsing faintly against her wrist. "You truly are a remarkable plant, aren't you?"

Her lips parted, and a soft laugh slipped out. "I'm finally becoming who I was born to be."

Her gaze shifted toward a thick steel beam lining the wall. Her expression hardened. She stepped closer, pulled her arm back, and struck it with her fist. The impact rang out like a hammer blow. The steel dented inward beneath her knuckles. Pamela stared, stunned for a heartbeat, then a slow, smile crossed her face.

"I'm not even sure I'm human anymore," she whispered. Her tone sharpened, dripping with venom. "I bet that fucking professor never saw this evolution coming…"

Her eyes glowed faintly green as her breath steadied, malice burning behind her gaze. "I'm going to kill Woodrow. And I'm going to make him suffer—for everything he's done. For every person he's butchered and turned into a monster."
