Chapter 81 - Beginning of Third Year

AN: Hi guys, thanks for the positive reviews so far, be sure to leave more! When we hit 10 REVIEWS, I'll release an extra chapter!

"Bye, Mum!" Connor and Blake yelled as they ran through the wall. It was the first day of September, and, of course, Hogwarts was starting. Blake felt slightly weird about the fact that Hagrid wasn't there to take them to Diagon Alley like he had done in the past two years, but he supposed that was the norm.

"Blake! Connor!" Hermione waved. Next to her were Harry, Ron and the rest of the Weasleys still in Hogwarts. As the brothers walked to meet them, Blake reminisced on that one week in summer when he and Connor had been invited to the Weasleys' home - or the Burrow, as they liked to call it - along with Harry and Ron.

His mum and Mrs Weasley had gotten along well, and Blake found himself liking the Weasley matriarch, even if she was slightly overbearing at times. As for the rest of the Weasleys, Blake had to say the twins were his favourite of them all. They took life so unseriously, yet always stuck by their own beliefs in their own way. Like when Harry was getting slack in first and second year - they never said a bad word about him. Charlie and Bill Weasley were great too - both accomplished, talented young men. It wasn't hard to see that the Weasleys had been struggling financially, but with Mr Weasley (who was also nice but was far too interested in Muggles for Blake's liking) being promoted in the Ministry, Charlie the dragonologist and Bill the Curse-Breaker, their prospects were looking great.

There was one Weasley that Blake wasn't the biggest fan of though.

Percy Weasley needs a humbling.

Luckily, the now Head Boy of Hogwarts seemed to like him, so he hadn't had to be on the receiving end of his bullsh*t. Unluckily, that also meant that Percy liked talking to him.

Connor, meanwhile, seemed to be having fun. Between spending time around Harry, who Blake had come to realise his younger brother idolised, and Ginny, who Blake judged was one of his best friends, he was having a great time. Truthfully, Blake was happy that Connor idolised Harry. The Boy-Who-Lived was a model person, after all. Kind, loyal, honourable, talented… not a bad role model at all. I do things behind people's backs and lie a lot… Harry's a lot better of an idol than me, he thought. A slight feeling of envy reared its head at the back of Blake's mind, but he quickly pushed it down.

Either way, the stay at the Burrow had indeed been fun, and Blake appreciated the family's kindness. It also opened his eyes to the fact that regardless of the fact that Ron could sometimes be hot-headed and beyond reasoning, he and Blake had a very similar sense of humour, and ironically enough, Blake found himself enjoying Ron's jokes (when their lives weren't on the line). Harry and Hermione's presence was also very much appreciated. He understood that out of all of them, he was probably the least close friend, but that was fine by him. After all, his friends in Slytherin - actually… are they my friends?

Tracey and Charlotte were, there was no doubt about that. But Greengrass, and Zabini in particular, Blake genuinely didn't know. I spend a lot of time with both of them - I've trusted Greengrass with my life before, and Zabini literally has access to all my stuff but he's never given me a reason not to trust him, and he's the one I've spent the most amount of time with, but still…

"What's up, mate?" Ron greeted him, clapping him on the shoulder. Harry, however, seemed slightly quieter.

"You alright, Harry?" Connor asked, noticing it too.

"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine!" Harry forced out with a smile. "How're you guys? It's been a while!"

Connor narrowed his eyes but replied nonetheless, and Blake observed Harry casually. Something's up with him. Oh well, as long as it's not Voldemort-related, I'm sure he'll be fine. He's been through worse anyway.

"Blake!"

The group turned towards the voice. Tracey was waving wildly at him, accompanied by Charlotte and Zabini.

"I'll see you guys around!" Blake called as he walked towards them.

"What's up, guys?" Blake asked with a grin. Charlotte and Tracey grinned back.

"Let's get on the train," Zabini said, ignoring Blake's question, prompting the latter to roll his eyes as they followed him into the carriage.

"Stop trying to sound cool, Zabini."

"I'm not!"

"Yes, you are, Blaise."

"No one was talking to you!" the halfblood snapped at Tracey.

"Someone's angry," Charlotte quipped.

"No, I'm not!"

Everyone else in our year thinks Zabini's quiet and mysterious, Blake thought with a smile. If only they knew.

"Where's Greengrass?" he asked, changing the subject.

"She's talking to Astoria," Tracey said dismissively. "She said she'll join us later." Astoria? So that's her sister's name.

"Anyway, did you hear, Blake? Sirius Black broke out of Azkaban!"

"What?"

Blake's head whipped around to face Tracey. Even as a muggleborn, Blake knew who that was. He'd done enough reading on the war to know important names like his.

Sirius Black… the man who was meant to be best friends with James Potter, Harry's dad, and the man that betrayed the Potters and led to their deaths, then killed their friend, Peter Pettigrew and 13 Muggles. It was so brutal that all that was left was Pettigrew's finger. People say he was Voldemort's right hand man during the entire war. His conviction was crucial in showing just how deep Death Eater infiltration went.

If he's escaped…

Dots connected in Blake's mind.

Harry's mood was off today - it's probably something to do with that. But he'll be at Hogwarts - Dumbledore wouldn't let Black touch him. There's no benefit to it. I've got nothing to worry about.

"No one knows how he escaped either," Tracey said animatedly. Stories like this always got her excited. "But guess what everyone thinks? He's after Potter!"

"Obviously," Zabini snorted. "He's gonna try to finish the job!"

"My mum's excited about it," Charlotte said gravely. "She thinks Black's going to be the one to start a new war. She mentioned Malfoy's looking for him too - no doubt the Dark Lord's old supporters will rally around him."

Blake clenched his teeth. He had a bone to pick with Lucius Malfoy, even aside from his awful parenting, blood purist views, and genetically greasy hair - Malfoy had been the one to slip Tom Riddle's diary into Ginny Weasley's cauldron last year, and subsequently, he was responsible for Connor's petrification - what could've been Connor's death.

And now he wants to find and help Black? Not a chance. Dumbledore won't let him.

And if Dumbledore doesn't stop Black and Malfoy, I will.

Suddenly, however, the air felt cold, and all at once, everyone in the carriage looked down the door. It opened slowly, and a grey, disgusting hand came through. The creatures that came into the carriage were dark, worn and grey, covered in torn, shaggy, black robes that covered their faces.

As Tracey shrieked and they all got their wands out, Blake realised what these terrifying things were.

Dementors.
