Chapter 16: The Ring of Authority

The crisp, melodic ringtone sliced through the tense silence of the ruined suite like a scalpel. It was a sound Manager Guo had heard in drills but never in reality—the direct, encrypted line from the office of the hotel's mysterious General Manager. His blood ran cold. All color drained from his face, his earlier bluster evaporating as his hand trembled violently, fumbling for the phone in his breast pocket.

Young Master Qin, misinterpreting the Manager's terror for incompetence, snarled, "Will you answer that and then deal with these criminals!"

Manager Guo ignored him, his world having shrunk to the glowing screen. He swiped to answer, bringing the device to his ear with a shaking hand. "H-hello? Manager Guo speaking."

The voice that responded was not that of a secretary. It was a man's voice, deep, aged with authority, and crackling with impatience. It was a voice he had only heard once before, at a corporate gala years ago—the General Manager himself.

"Guo," the voice began, dispensing with any pleasantries. "I am calling to inform you that as of twenty-three minutes ago, ownership of the Celestial River Hotel and all its assets has been formally transferred. The new proprietor is now the sole authority. All previous operational protocols are void. You will answer to him, and him alone. Is that clear?"

Manager Guo's mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water. "T-transferred? Sir, I... we had no notification... who...?"

"The documentation, including the new owner's identification and full executive privileges, has been sent to your terminal and personal device. His name is Li Wei. You will find he is on the premises. Your one and only task is to facilitate his every request without a moment's hesitation or question. I suggest you find him and apologize for whatever stupidity your staff has already undoubtedly committed. The future of your career depends on the next five minutes."

The line went dead.

Manager Guo stood frozen, the phone still pressed to his ear. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. His eyes, wide with dawning horror, slowly lifted from the floor and traveled across the room. They moved past the groaning forms of the businessmen, past the terrifyingly still bodyguard, past the arrogant Young Master Qin, and finally landed on the figure they had all been threatening.

Li Wei. Standing there, his clothes still damp, his expression one of icy, infinite patience. He hadn't moved. He didn't need to. He simply watched, as if he knew exactly what was being said on the other end of that call.

A soft ping came from the tablet in Manager Guo's other hand. He looked down numbly. A new file had appeared. He tapped it open. There it was. The legal deed of transfer. The ownership records. And a profile photo of the new owner.

Li Wei.

The phone finally slipped from Manager Guo's grasp and clattered to the floor.

He took a stumbling step forward, then another, his body moving on autopilot driven by sheer survival instinct. He stopped a few feet from Li Wei and performed a deep, ninety-degree bow, so low his forehead was nearly parallel to the floor.

"Mr. Li! Sir!" he stammered, his voice choked with a mixture of terror and reverence. "My most profound, most unforgivable apologies! We were not informed! I am so—"

He was cut off by the sound of new voices approaching down the hallway. A group of men appeared at the shattered doorway.

At the forefront was a man in his late fifties, his face a mask of thunderous anger. He had the same sharp features as the young man in the room, but etched with decades of real power and ruthlessness. This was Qin Lao, the patriarch, summoned by his son's frantic call.

"Father!" Young Master Qin cried out, a wave of relief and renewed arrogance washing over him. "This madman! He assaulted us, destroyed property, and kidnapped a woman! He needs to be made an example of!"

Qin Lao's furious gaze swept the room, taking in the scene of devastation and his son's humiliated state. His eyes finally settled on Li Wei, who stood calmly amidst the chaos. "You," he seethed, his voice low and dangerous. "Who are you to dare—"

He was interrupted by another man who had been following close behind him. This man, named Zhao, was a high-level director for OmniStar's operations in China. He was there to meet with Qin Lao to discuss a potential joint venture. He had been waiting in the lobby when the commotion erupted.

Director Zhao's eyes were not on the Qins. They were glued to the tablet in Manager Guo's trembling hands. The Manager, in his state of shock, was still holding it up, the screen clearly displaying the legal documents and—most importantly—the photo of Li Wei.

Zhao's eyes darted from the photo on the screen to the man standing in the room. His brain made the connection with a jolt of pure, undiluted shock. This was him. The mysterious new majority shareholder. The man who owned his company, his career, his entire world.

He pushed past the fuming Qin Lao, his own agenda instantly and completely rewritten. He strode toward Li Wei, his earlier corporate demeanor replaced by frantic, obsequious energy.

"Mr. Li! Sir!" Zhao exclaimed, bowing deeply, his voice filled with a mix of panic and desperate respect. "I am Zhao Wei, Director of Regional Operations for OmniStar. It is an immense honor, sir! A profound honor to finally meet you in person! Please, accept my most sincere apologies for this... this unfortunate disruption!" He gestured wildly at the Qins and the wrecked room as if it were all a personal insult to Li Wei.

The entire room fell silent. Young Master Qin's jaw hung open. His father, Qin Lao, stared in utter confusion, his fury momentarily derailed by this sudden, bizarre show of deference from a powerful business associate to the man he was about to destroy.

Director Zhao, seeing the stunned silence as an opportunity, presented a small, velvet-lined box he had been holding. "I saw you arrive, sir, and I took the liberty of... of welcoming you to one of your properties." He opened the box to reveal an exquisite, antique jade pendant. "A small token, sir. For your esteemed lady, perhaps?"

Li Wei looked at the offered gift, then at the bowing director, then at the utterly bewildered Qin Lao. His expression did not change.

Young Master Qin, seeing his father's hesitation, found his voice again. "Father! What are you doing? This is the man! Have him arrested! Ruin him! He crippled my bodyguard!"

Qin Lao looked from his son's enraged face to the terrified Manager Guo, to the deeply bowing OmniStar director, and finally back to the chillingly calm young man at the center of it all. For the first time, a sliver of doubt and cold fear pierced through his anger. He was a shark who sensed a larger, more dangerous predator in his waters.
