Chapter 24 - 24. Survive.

Buford opened his eyes, moving his hands to his eyes to shield them from the sun pouring through the window, the pink princess curtains wide open.

"Fuck."

[POV CHANGE]

Noticing the curtains and the ripped clothes lying around me, I sit up and assess the damages.

"Status."

"Holy shit..." I can't help but exclaim, shocked at how much stronger Lesley got us in her time out.

'Maybe I was worried for nothing, she's a smart kid...' I muse, still in shock that my class has reached S-Tier.

Seeing my class' new tier, I'm reminded of my class upgrade ticket, and I deliberate whether I should use it now or save it for an immediate upgrade from whatever comes after S-Tier.

'Well, I got it from clearing a C-Tier gate, so theoretically I should get another from my first clear of a B-Tier gate, or A-Tier if I'm unlucky. I'll go ahead and use it' I say, taking it out of my inventory and focusing my thoughts into using the ticket.

As soon as the ticket disappears, I feel an explosion of mana burst forth, alongside a change in the inherent quality and quantity improvement in my mana itself.

The building itself starts rumbling, and the clothes and toys spread across the floor begin to float up and swirl, the very atmosphere around me being affected by the sudden change in my mana.

As quickly as possible, I suppress my leaking mana, and the atmosphere returns to normal.

'Fuck, I'm gonna have to deal with that.' I think, and as quick as the thought ended I hear a knock on my door.

Opening the door, I'm greeted by Miss Grace's familiar face.

"Hello, how can I help you?" I ask, with a smile.

She smiles gently and responds with a greeting in return, before addressing the reason she knocked.

"Well, I was in the area, and there was a particularly large mana disturbance, so I came to check on the source, and it led me here."

"Ah, that would be..."

Suddenly, Julia's face changes to shock as my hair turns to a desaturated green, and my eyes shift ink black. I quickly bend my knees a little at a measured pace to hide the height increase I felt occurring.

"Apologies for the disturbance, Julia, I used a skill book and lost control a tad as the mana and muscle memories were imprinted."

"Ahh... I see, and what happened to your hair and eyes?" She asks, quickly typing something into her phone, presumably a message to her superiors that everything's under control.

"That's the work of a passive skill that changes a couple features based on differing conditions,"

Julia studies my face, and glances behind me to see a strew of thrown about toys, dressed, and miscellaneous frilly pink things.

"Okay, well, I should head back out, remember that if you need anything, call or text." She pauses, glancing again at the toys, and continues. "And if you need any makeup tips, let me know." She says, her gaze lingering on my face for a bit longer than normal.

I smile awkwardly, thank her, and see her off, before rushing to the bathroom and checking the mirror, finding, much to my horror, that the appearance shift did not clean off the child's make-up, but rather warped and disfigured it as my face reconstructed.

I, begrudgingly, clean the make-up off of my face, as well as organize the various different kinds of make-up and skin-care products around the bathroom, before heading out and cleaning up the house, carefully storing Lesley's- at least the still intact ones- clothes, and sit down on the couch.

Finally having the time, I decide on where to allocate my free stat points, and reallocate my resources, fine-tuning the fairly decent ideas Lesley had for our growth.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, I get the feeling that someone, or something, is after me. I quickly turn off the lights, activate [Stealth], and purchase and learn a D-Tier skill called [Night Vision], allowing me to see in the dark.

Outside of my apartment, faint shuffling noises sound out, and I wait until they finally begin to pick the lock on my door, most likely assuming I'm asleep.

[Ding!]

[System Quest Initiated!]

[Survive.]

[Rewards: A-Tier Key]

[POV Change]

Ford's demeanor shifts entirely as he gazes into the empty air and registers the words only he can see.

The playful part of the wolf-like glint always present in his eyes disappears entirely, replaced by cold calculation and controlled rage.

The group of people outside, led by a man with a glowing purple hue in one of his eyes, had no idea that they were walking directly into a wolf's den.
