As soon as Navian stepped into his sitting room, the door to his bedroom sliding shut behind him, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out slowly, only to see his mother's name flashing on the screen.
With a heavy sigh of frustration, he answered and dropped onto the couch. A holographic projection flickered to life above the phone, revealing both his parents.
"Hello, Mother," he greeted dully. She smiled faintly, though it faded almost immediately when his gaze shifted to his father. "Father."
"Son," his father acknowledged with a curt nod.
Navian exhaled, leaning back. "Is something wrong?"
"We just heard about the mission. Were you there?" his father asked.
The question made Navian cringe inside, though his face remained carefully blank.
"No. It was for the first and second-years. And that was nearly two weeks ago. If I had been there, you certainly wouldn't be calling me."
