At this point, the students were ready to unleash their abilities, while the Dregs stood ready to gun them down. Willow glanced at Indigo, whose pale face was tight with a deep frown.
This is going to end badly, she thought.
Even if the mutants fought back, the Dregs could still cut half of them down with a single shot to the head.
She tore herself from Indigo's side and rushed to Evren. His breathing was shallow, his eyes closed. As she knelt beside him, her gaze dropped to his leg. Blood hissed and sizzled where the shot had torn through, the wound raw and burning. Her hands trembled as she reached out to touch him.
Then his bright blue eyes slowly open, meeting her hazel ones. They widened, and a dimpled smile curved across his face.
Willow froze, heat rushing to her cheeks. He's injured and still smiling?
She scowled, pulled out her electric dagger, and cut a strip from her coat.
