Today is my first day at my new school. I've been nervous and excited for days because I've been waiting for this day for a long time.
By the way, I'm Jeth Ramos, 21 years old. I'm the same age as my friends Telly and Shaun. I'm a guy, but if you look at me, you'd think I'm a girl because of my face—some even joke that I'm prettier than a real girl. I have a small mole below my eye and another one at the tip of my nose, like a dot made by a ballpoint pen.
Telly Montero and Shaun Torres have been my friends for a long time. They've been studying here since before, and from the start, they've been pushing me to go to college here too so we could be together. Like them, my cousin Dexter Tan also studies here, but I don't let people know that we're cousins. Dexter and I have already agreed to keep it a secret, and only Telly and Shaun know the truth.
So, after graduation and vacation, here I am—transferring and enrolling here for college.
As I walk around the campus, I can't help but feel nervous. There are so many students, the buildings are so big, and I feel like I'll get lost in the crowd right away.
"Hey, Jeth! So you're studying here now!" Telly shouted, waving from afar. Shaun followed him, looking as chill as ever, carrying an iced coffee.
"I thought you'd get lost right away," Shaun added, winking.
I smiled and immediately greeted them. "Good thing I saw you guys. The campus is so big."
"Don't worry, we're used to it here. We'll take care of you," Telly replied, obviously excited that we're classmates again.
Honestly, it's a big relief that they're here. If they weren't, I might have already gotten lost or been consumed by anxiety.
As we walked towards our first class, I noticed the surroundings—the busy students, the groups of friends, and the feeling that a new chapter of my life is beginning.
I don't know what new things will happen here, but I'm sure this journey will be unique.
