Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Students of First-Year Class D

Kiyomizu considered himself an honest man. He wasn't against getting intimately involved with girls, but he couldn't accept being with someone promiscuous—the mere thought of the potential health risks was unsettling. It wasn't that he was sexually repressed or couldn't get a girlfriend.

As for this Chie Hoshinomiya, Kiyomizu was momentarily clueless. Which class was this beautiful, and apparently open-minded, girl in? He didn't even consider that she might be a staff member. After all, in Japan, no matter how depraved a teacher might be, they wouldn't dare make a move on a student, right? That was a line that should not be crossed, a basic professional ethic for a teacher.

As for the second piece of intel—on the surface, it seemed useless, but for certain perverts, it would be priceless, exclusive information. With this, Kiyomizu's understanding of Horikita Suzune deepened a little more. It seemed the system would occasionally push seemingly useless but subtly interesting information.

All things considered, the only piece of intel that seemed truly useful right now was the first one.

...

It's worth noting here that he wasn't entirely unprepared for this transmigration. Just the day before, a mysterious email had appeared in his inbox from a sender named "System." The email concisely informed him that he had been selected as a new student for the Advanced Nurturing High School and asked him to set up his background and special abilities for his new identity.

At the time, Kiyomizu had dismissed it as a prank and filled it out casually. In the identity field, he had scribbled a simple and careless setting like "an orphan from an orphanage." As for abilities, he had completely copied the template from One-Punch Man—an exaggerated training plan of "eight years of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10-kilometer run every day."

Thinking back now, he realized there were indeed gaps in his memory. Other than fragments of his consistent training over the years and the entrance exam, all his other memories were hazy. Fortunately, all his identification documents were in order, so at least he wasn't a completely undocumented person in this world.

Kiyomizu now felt frighteningly strong. But on second thought, in a high school setting, how much of an advantage could this powerful physique really provide? At most, it would just ensure he always got a perfect score in P.E. class. This wasn't Suzuran High School from the Crows series, where "might makes right" was the law of the jungle. Looking at the well-mannered students in front of the school building, Kiyomizu couldn't help but shake his head at his ridiculous thought.

...

According to the school's notice, Kiyomizu was assigned to First-Year Class D. When he arrived in the classroom, each desk had a nameplate neatly placed on it. Following the nameplates, Kiyomizu quickly found his seat in the back of the classroom—the center seat in the last row. The window seat had already been taken by that inconspicuous brown-haired student.

To his left, Horikita Suzune was placing her shoulder bag on her desk, efficiently organizing her stationery. Kiyomizu hung his own bag on the hook on the side of his desk.

"160 new students, four classes..." he muttered, his fingertips tapping lightly on the desk. "40 students per class. That's a pretty standard number."

"The classroom is laid out in 5 columns and 8 rows," Horikita responded without looking up. "We've been assigned to Class D, which means there must be classes A, B, and C ahead of us. Based on this information, there are indeed at least 160 students."

"Your thinking is sharp, Horikita-san," Kiyomizu complimented.

"You already figured that out, didn't you?" Horikita shot him a cold glance. "Otherwise, you wouldn't have made the deduction of 'four classes, 40 students.'"

"You misunderstand, that's not it." Kiyomizu paused for a moment, then took out the school handbook from his bag and handed it to her. The handbook clearly stated in black and white: "Each grade has 40 students per class, divided into four classes: A, B, C, and D."

Horikita's expression froze instantly. However, she quickly regained her composure and handed the handbook back as if nothing had happened. "It seems the school provided the exact numbers from the start," she said, her voice still cool but her pace slightly faster than usual. "Ultimately, my reasoning was not wrong."

Then, Horikita pulled a copy of Crime and Punishment from her bag, lowered her head slightly, and exuded a cold "do not disturb" aura.

"Horikita-san," Kiyomizu glanced at her again. "I remember you were already reading that book on the bus. Why are you back on the first page now?"

Horikita's fingers paused for a fraction of a second before she replied coldly, "It's my habit to read a book at least three times." Her tone was calm, but the force with which she turned the page was heavier than usual, the paper making a crisp sound.

(I see...) Kiyomizu concluded internally. (She's just using the book to cover up her embarrassment, isn't she?)

He discreetly observed the girl beside him. Horikita's long eyelashes fluttered gently with the rhythm of her reading. Even in an awkward moment, she maintained her innate elegance.

(...Quite cute.)

What surprised him even more was that this was the first time she had initiated a conversation with him. Perhaps this seemingly aloof honor student wasn't as opposed to social interaction as she appeared?

Still, he wisely averted his gaze. If he kept staring, he might genuinely annoy his proud deskmate. In any case, there would be plenty of time. As neighbors, they would have many more opportunities to interact in the future.

Kiyomizu's gaze naturally shifted to his neighbor on the right. A red-haired girl with round glasses was nervously looking down, her cascade of fiery red hair almost completely obscuring her small face. Her slender fingers anxiously twisted the hem of her skirt, and her occasional stolen glances at the other students revealed obvious nervousness.

(Hmm? Is she a beauty too...)

Kiyomizu couldn't help but take a second look. The girl's fair skin looked exceptionally radiant against her red hair, and she occasionally bit her cherry-like lips. Although her entire demeanor screamed "please don't notice me," her striking looks made her hard to ignore.

(Let's see if there are any other familiar faces.)

Leaning back in his seat in the center of the last row, Kiyomizu had a perfect vantage point to take in the entire classroom. His eyes were first drawn to Kushida Kikyo in the middle of the room. The energetic girl was standing by her seat, leaning slightly over a neighbor's desk to chat with the students around her, already having become the center of a small circle.

Shifting his gaze to the right, Rokusuke Koenji, whom he'd seen on the bus, had his legs propped up arrogantly on his desk, fiddling with a nail file. His powerful, explosive physique was particularly conspicuous in the classroom. Kiyomizu felt that his physical abilities were likely on par with his own.
