Chapter 184 — Ventriloquism Fortress: Mobile Toilet!
Fugaku narrowed his eyes but chose not to press the attack.
Nagato's Super Shinra Tensei wouldn't last much longer—he just had to wait it out.
That technique consumed an extraordinary amount of chakra and even shaved away the user's life force. There was no way Nagato could maintain it indefinitely.
Relaxing his stance, Fugaku let Susanoo drift upward with the repulsive force instead of fighting it.
As long as Nagato and Konan stayed within sight, he wasn't worried.
At Susanoo's full speed, there was nowhere they could run.
"Let's see how long you can keep that up," he murmured, watching like a predator waiting for the moment to pounce.
Below, Nagato's face had gone deathly pale.
The overwhelming repulsion began to fade, and a bitter smile curved his lips.
He had misjudged completely.
He thought that enormous Susanoo was mere intimidation—but even Super Shinra Tensei barely dented it.
There was only one card left to play.
Nagato coughed violently into his hand; blood spotted his palm.
Noticing Konan's worried eyes, he wiped it away as if it were nothing.
"Konan, I'll buy you time. Leave me."
Konan shook her head hard. "No. If we go, we go together."
Yahiko would never have abandoned a comrade, and neither would she.
Nagato exhaled slowly, gaze fixed on the horizon.
Then, before Konan could react, he struck her neck with the edge of his hand.
Konan gasped softly and went limp. Both began to fall—
—until Yatagarasu swooped in, catching them on its wide black wings.
Nagato steadied Konan with the Deva Path, then formed rapid hand seals.
His eyes flared.
"Kuchiyose: Gedo Mazo!"
A deafening roar split the plains.
Even citizens in the distant capital turned toward the sound as a towering, grotesque silhouette took form on the horizon—
a humanoid giant of withered wood, nine eyes glaring hollowly, ten spines jutting from its back.
Compared to Fugaku's radiant Susanoo, the Outer Path Demonic Statue was a nightmare given flesh.
Nagato landed atop a summoned chameleon; as soon as they touched, both vanished.
The beast's camouflage shrouded everything it carried in invisibility.
High above, Yatagarasu soared away with Konan protected by the Human Path.
The remaining five Paths of Pain leapt onto the chameleon's back—and vanished as well.
Moments later, within the concealment field, black receivers were driven into Nagato's back one after another.
The statue had no chakra of its own, so Nagato would serve as the conduit.
A torrent of energy coursed from the Six Paths into Nagato's body, then into the Gedo Mazo through those receivers.
The statue shuddered, releasing a primal roar as chakra flooded its wooden veins.
Its crude awareness—like that of a small child—swelled with raw excitement.
"Outer Path Demonic Statue… It's even uglier in person," Fugaku muttered.
Up close it looked nothing like the stylized version he remembered from the tales—monstrous and hideously real.
He guided Susanoo down, landing with an impact that shook the ground.
If the statue was as strong as they said, this would be the perfect test.
And if not—he could always retreat.
The advantage was his.
Nagato's voice thundered across the field.
"Gedo Mazo, use the chains!"
A violet sphere ignited in the statue's mouth. From it erupted a storm of hooked chains, each link large enough to crush a gatehouse.
They shot toward Susanoo like iron serpents, intent on binding the colossal warrior.
"Not a chance."
Fugaku's Susanoo swung the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi. The sword's beam twisted and slashed, coiling the chains together into a blazing knot before he gripped them in one massive hand.
Nagato remained impassive. He knew the statue's brute strength eclipsed nearly anything on the continent.
He let Susanoo pull—then suddenly commanded the Gedo Mazo to yank back with all its might.
A contest of titans began.
The earth groaned, but to Nagato's shock, the statue's chains barely made the armored giant budge.
No matter how the Gedo Mazo strained, Susanoo stood unmoving, like a mountain rooted in the sky.
Nagato's expression darkened.
Even the demigod Hanzō had fallen before the Gedo Mazo—yet this?
This Uchiha's power defied belief.
