Chapter 37: Reactions from Various Villages
Sunagakure – The Hidden Sand Village
Maki nodded with understanding.
"That's all," Rasa said. "I'm busy."
With that, the Fourth Kazekage gathered gold-colored sand beneath his feet and flew out the window, vanishing into the sky.
Sunagakure's finances were nearly in crisis. Rasa had been spending his days refining Gold Dust to sell, desperately trying to subsidize the Village's increasingly strained budget.

Iwagakure – The Hidden Stone Village
Inside the Tsuchikage's Office, a short but commanding old man sat at the head of the room.
This was Ōnoki, the Third Tsuchikage, and a living legend—disciple of the First and Second Tsuchikage and still the pillar that held Iwagakure steady.
Below him, the elders were engaged in a noisy debate.
"Should we act now?"
"Konoha is vulnerable!"
"This might be our chance!"
Ōnoki suddenly slammed his palm onto the table.
"Enough!"
His voice cut through the chatter like a blade. The room instantly fell silent as all eyes turned to the aging leader.
Ōnoki narrowed his gaze. "Konoha may have lost Hiruzen Sarutobi, but their military strength remains intact. There was no civil war, no internal bloodshed. We will not act."
There were no objections. Not one of the elders dared speak against Ōnoki's command.
Once they left, the doors creaked open again—this time revealing a young girl skipping in.
Ōnoki's scowl melted instantly as he beamed with grandfatherly affection.
But before he could greet her, his granddaughter blurted out:
"Grandpa, can I go outside the Village to play with Deidara-nii?"
Ōnoki's face stiffened.
"No," he said firmly. "You're not allowed to find him."
She pouted. "But when will Deidara-nii come back?"
Ōnoki grunted. "When he's reflected enough on his choices."

Elsewhere in Iwagakure, a young man with glasses read a note silently. Surprise flickered in his eyes before he swallowed the slip of paper whole.
A spark returned to his once lifeless gaze.
He stepped toward the window and looked out at the sky.
I can go back, he thought.
Director Mama... My comrades... Are they well?
The note's last line echoed in his heart:
"Return immediately."

Kumogakure – The Hidden Cloud Village
In the Raikage's Office, a tall, muscular man with dark skin paced back and forth, his expression stormy.
This was Ay, the Fourth Raikage.
He stopped only when a knock came at the door.
"Enter!" he barked.
A tall, lean man with long white hair entered and bowed. "Raikage-sama."
It was Darui, his most trusted bodyguard and right-hand man.
"Good. I just received urgent intelligence from Konoha. Look it over," Ay said, handing him a document.
Darui read it carefully.
When he looked up, there was genuine surprise in his eyes.
"So Uchiha Fugaku actually went through with it...?"
He smirked. "You really have to look at a man with new eyes every three days."
Ay snorted. "That spineless Fugaku? I'm not impressed. I'm more curious—is this our opportunity to strike Konoha?"
He had long harbored resentment toward Hiruzen Sarutobi. The old Hokage had rarely left the Village and had never faced Ay in battle, despite Konoha's claims of his legendary strength.
But now he'd been killed—by Uchiha Fugaku, of all people.
Maybe Hiruzen's legend really was just empty words.
Darui, still calm, offered his analysis.
"With all due respect, Raikage-sama, my advice is: don't act yet."
Ay raised his eyebrows. "Why not?"
Darui didn't flinch under his leader's intense gaze.
"According to what we know, the coup was clean and quick. No major losses. No internal chaos. Konoha is stable—only the Hokage is gone. Militarily, they're still strong."
Ay paused. As much as he wanted to fight, he wasn't reckless.
Darui added, "Let's keep gathering intel. Then, if an opportunity does present itself, we'll be ready."
Ay reluctantly nodded. "Fine. I'm counting on you."
Darui bowed slightly and left the room to carry out the assignment.

Kirigakure – The Hidden Mist Village
Two days later, the news finally reached the Land of Water.
The Hidden Mist had no reliable spies in Konoha—not because of incompetence, but because their own internal affairs were in shambles. They simply hadn't the resources.
It wasn't until a rogue shinobi—exiled but recently returning under new policies—brought the information back that they even learned of the coup.
A meeting was immediately called in the Mizukage's conference room.
At the head sat a young man, rubbing his temples in frustration.
This was Yagura Karatachi, the Fourth Mizukage, who had recently been freed from the Genjutsu control that once turned Kirigakure into the infamous "Bloody Mist."
He had since enacted an isolationist policy, attempting to stabilize the Village and restore trust.
But it was not going well.
The Village's finances were in ruins.
Their talent pool had dried up.
And worst of all, most of his subordinates didn't trust him, still haunted by the memory of his violent reign under manipulation.
Then came the Konoha news.
Yagura considered it. Could this be an opportunity?
He brought it before the council.
But the powerful elder Genshi, equal in authority to the Mizukage, immediately opposed him.
"Konoha's strength remains intact. There was no war, no disorder. If we provoke them now, we invite destruction."
The majority of Jonin agreed.
Yagura could only nod and shelve the idea.
But the bigger problem remained:
Kirigakure was broke.
One loyal aide approached him afterward, whispering grimly:
"Lord Mizukage... We've been unable to pay Jonin salaries for several months."
Yagura's head throbbed.
He felt crushed under the weight of his Village's problems.
And just as he buried his face in his hands, two unfamiliar figures quietly stepped onto the shores of the Mist Village island…
