Chapter 61 - Chapter 51 – Passing the Mantle (~1250 words)

The aurora night passed, but Leng Tian's health never recovered. His body grew weaker each winter, steps slower, voice raspier. Even disciples noticed when he faltered climbing steps to Frost Hall.

At last, Yuexin begged once more: "Tian, you've done enough. The roots are firmly planted. Let them grow—you no longer need to carry the weight."

Clan elders too pressed, kneeling before him. "Patriarch, your guidance remains, but the mantle must be readied for heir. Let us prepare succession."

Tian looked long at his eldest, Leng Xuan, now sixteen—tall, strong, Innate Spear blazing with cold fire. A youth filled with pride, but with patience tempered by father's endless lessons.

At length, Tian exhaled. "Very well. It is time."

A week later, the clan gathered. Before the Frost Inscriptions, old and young assembled as Tian raised the old frostwood staff and placed it into his son's hands.

With voice hoarse but clear, he declared:

"Today, I name Leng Xuan as successor. He shall carry mantle not as my son, but as Patriarch of Leng Clan. Protect our creed—Clan above self."

Roars of oath shook the sky. The first transfer of leadership was marked not by power, but by faith.

Though pale, Tian smiled faintly. Now my roots can grow without me.
