Chapter 31 - The Ultimate Skills: Explaining

The choice of names for the Ultimate Skills—Dolos, Argus, and Ahriman—is highly deliberate. I chose them because their ancient mythological origins perfectly embody the concept and function of each corresponding skill.

These figures come from various ancient mythologies, representing powerful concepts: Deception, Absolute Vigilance, and Destruction/Chaos.

1. Lord of Subjugation 'Dolos'

The power of absolute deception and mental binding is embodied by Dolos, a figure from Greek Mythology.

* Who He Is:

Dolos (or Dolus in Latin) is the daimon, or spirit, of trickery, cunning, guile, and treachery. His name literally means "Trick" or "Deceit."

* His Story:

In one famous fable, Dolos was an apprentice of the Titan Prometheus (the creator of mankind). When Prometheus was sculpting a statue of Truth (Veritas), Dolos, out of rivalry, crafted an exact duplicate. However, he ran out of clay before finishing the feet, leaving the copy incomplete and unable to walk—a perfect representation of a lie or Falsehood (Mendacium). He often works alongside his female counterpart, Apate, the goddess of deceit.

* Skill Alignment:

* Abyssal Dominion (Subjugation): Dolos is the master of mental and spiritual manipulation. The "Mark of Subjugation" that forces the target to perceive the user as an "absolute entity" is the ultimate act of perfect mental deception, blurring their grasp on reality.

* Perfect Deception (Total Illusion): This skill is Dolos's essence. Affecting the five senses, mind, soul, and magic energy—it is flawless trickery. The ability to imperfectly imitate a skill also mirrors the story of Dolos's attempt to copy Truth.

2. Lord of Omniscient 'Argus'

The power of unparalleled intellect, analysis, and foresight is drawn from Argus Panoptes of Greek Mythology.

* Who He Is:

Argus Panoptes is a giant with a hundred eyes spread all over his body. His epithet, Panoptes, means "The All-Seeing." He is famous for his absolute vigilance and watchfulness.

* His Story:

Argus served the goddess Hera as her ultimate watchman. His most famous task was guarding Io, a priestess transformed into a white heifer by Hera. Because only a few of Argus's hundred eyes would sleep at any given time, he was never caught off-guard—he was the perfect, sleepless guard. After he was slain by Hermes, Hera honored his loyalty by preserving his eyes forever on the tail of her sacred bird, the peacock.

* Skill Alignment:

* Lord of Omniscient: The name refers directly to Argus Panoptes, the "All-Seeing" one. His gift is the unlimited processing power needed for prediction and analysis.

* Analytical Appraisal, Parallel Calculation, Absolute Prediction: All these skills are reflections of his hundred eyes, allowing for multi-threaded thought acceleration and analysis that accounts for every variable, making any event, even apparent failure, part of a larger, absolute strategy.

* Administrator: Protecting other skills from external seizure or copying is the duty of a fiercely loyal and ever-vigilant guard, exactly as Argus served Hera.

3. Lord of Destruction 'Ahriman'

The power to corrupt, erode, and destroy systems and laws is derived from Ahriman of Zoroastrianism (an ancient Persian religion).

* Who He Is:

Ahriman is the Middle Persian name for Angra Mainyu (the Destructive/Evil Spirit). He is the central antagonist and the arch-enemy of Ahura Mazda (the God of Goodness, Light, and Order). Ahriman is the personification of evil, chaos, and absolute destruction.

* His Story:

In Zoroastrian cosmology, the world is a battleground between the forces of order (Ahura Mazda) and chaos (Ahriman). Ahriman's sole purpose is to corrupt, dismantle, and twist everything good and orderly created by his rival, bringing darkness, disease, and death into existence. He represents the disruption of natural law and truth.

* Skill Alignment:

* Lord of Destruction: This title directly reflects Ahriman's role as the cosmic force of chaos.

* System Corruption (Corrupting the Flow): The ability to corrupt energy, space, or even the laws governing other skills is the pure essence of Ahriman—disrupting and tainting existing order.

* Law Erosion (Eroding the Laws): Actively eroding and eliminating laws established by other entities perfectly aligns with Ahriman's war against the order and laws established by Ahura Mazda.

* Factual Distortion (Altering Truth): Ahriman (AngraMainyu) is also frequently referred to as Druj, meaning "TheLie." The ability to alter existing information and create false facts is the ultimate expression of the cosmic lie.

These three names—Dolos the Trickster, Argus the All-Seer, and Ahriman the Corrupter—provide a mythological foundation that elevates these Ultimate Skills far beyond simple abilities, grounding them in the power of ancient, fundamental forces.
