Chapter 6 - Chapter 6 Hunting Prey

Before Ye Ming could refuse, Liu Qiang walked away.

Watching Liu Qiang's departure, Ye Ming secretly decided to lend a hand to Wang Qiang once he became wealthy.

"My husband, Brother Qiang is such a good man. Not only did he find us a place to live, he even gave us two sweet potatoes. Now, even if we can't dig up any grass roots today, we won't go hungry."

Su Xiaorong smiled happily; not having to go hungry was a blessing for her.

"Yes, he's a good man indeed. Let's go inside and clean up the house."

"Okay!"

...

After entering the courtyard, Su Xiaorong was assigned by Ye Ming to clean the inner room, while Ye Ming cleared the snow from the roof and yard. The snow on the roof was not easy to remove, but thankfully the house wasn't very tall.

Ye Ming could still reach it with a long bamboo pole.

As for clearing the snow, there was a bamboo broom still in the yard. It was a little worn, but still manageable. It took about two incense sticks of time for Ye Ming to finally clear the snow.

"Great, husband! The hay in the house is still usable!"

Su Xiaorong had expected a cold night, but she hadn't expected the bed to be made of stones.

The thick layer of hay on top hadn't gotten wet or moldy. It was a shame the remaining quilt had been gnawed by mice and had several holes in it.

Hearing Su Xiaorong's call, Ye Ming hurried into the room.

"What's wrong?"

"Husband, the hay in the bed is still dry, so it won't be so cold tonight."

Seeing Su Xiaorong's delighted face, Ye Ming breathed a sigh of relief, having initially assumed something had happened to his young wife.

"Well, my wife is truly capable."

Su Xiaorong was indeed capable, having quickly tidied the house.

Ye Ming glanced around, his gaze finally settling on a hunting bow on the wall. He had just been trying to come up with an excuse to go hunting in the mountains, and now he had it.

"My husband, the room is ready. I'm going to try my luck in the mountains. See if I can dig up some sweet potato roots and pick up some firewood."

"No thanks, I'll take care of that."

Ye Ming picked up the hunting bow hanging on the wall and added a few rusty arrows.

"I'm going to try my luck in the mountains."

Seeing Ye Ming going hunting, Su Xiaorong suddenly became worried.

"My husband, you've just regained your composure, so why don't you go hunting? I heard there are long insects and blind bears in the mountains, which are very dangerous. Without a guide, you could easily be blinded by mountain spirits and lose your way back."

Seeing Su Xiaorong's worried look, Ye Ming smiled and gently rubbed her head.

"Don't worry, I'll just be strolling around outside. I won't go too far. Besides, your husband isn't stupid anymore. He'll run away if he sees danger."

Su Xiaorong finally breathed a sigh of relief when Ye Ming said he would only be strolling around the outside of the woods.

"We agreed to just wander around the woods. You have to be home before dark. I'll wait for you at home."

"Yeah, don't worry, just wait for me at home."

..

With that, Ye Ming carried his old hunting bow and rusty arrows and headed for the back mountain.

It was noon, and the women in the village, who didn't have much food at home, were digging up grass roots and sweet potatoes in the back mountain.

"Hey, isn't this a fool?"

"Wang Da Jiao is willing to let you out?"

"Where are you going with your bow?"

The village aunties and sisters kept asking him questions, and Ye Ming, really annoyed by the questions, finally replied.

"Going up the mountain to hunt."

They smiled when they heard Ye Ming's reply.

"The fool has finally come to his senses today and can actually reply."

"Of course, he can even go up the mountain to hunt, Aunt Li."

Everyone was teasing Ye Ming, the fool. Usually, teasing Ye Ming was one of the few entertainment activities for the people in Qingshi Village.

"Hey, Fool, you really want to go up the mountain? You can't go up the mountain. The snowy mountain roads are hard to walk on. It would be bad if you run into a wild animal!"

Aunt Huang urged.

Although Aunt Huang played along, she had no intention of harming anyone. Sometimes, if she had extra food, she would give it to Ye Ming.

It wasn't just her village; many people were like that. Perhaps this was how the original owner, despite being tortured by Wang Da Jiao, survived until Ye Ming arrived.

"Yeah, idiot, come back soon. It would be bad if you lost your life."

"In my opinion, why do you care about him? He's just an idiot. If he died, he wouldn't have to endure Wang Da Jiao's abuse."

"Besides, what does a fool like him know how to go up the mountain?"

"Don't worry about it."

The women were immediately displeased when He Chunhua said this.

"Why are idiots not human? Do they deserve to die?"

Ye Ming ignored their arguments and headed back into the mountains. He waited until no one was around before he pulled out his military coat and put it on.

This dark green outfit was still a bit eye-catching in the white snow forest. But fortunately, it was very warm.

After changing his clothes, he put the old hunting bow into the system space and took out the carbon composite bow and arrows.

"Get ready, let's find a target to practice accuracy first. Otherwise, even if we find prey, we won't be able to hit it."

So Ye Ming chose a tree trunk about fifty steps away as a target and began to practice archery.

At the beginning, he often missed the target, but soon Ye Ming found the feeling and almost never missed the target.

In his previous life, Ye Ming grew up in the countryside and often played with small toys such as slingshots when he was a child, so his accuracy was pretty good.

Now he quickly got back to the feeling after practicing.

After the practice, Ye Ming picked up the arrows and looked for prey in the forest.

Unfortunately, he searched for a long time but didn't find any until the sun was about to set.

A hedgehog was spotted scratching at a dead log.

"Holy crap! Finally, a good one!"

Ye Ming quietly approached, found the perfect moment, drew his bow, and fired an arrow in one go. "Holy crap! Hit the target! I'm a fucking genius!"

Ye Ming's arrow pierced the hedgehog, pinning it to the dead log.

The hedgehog didn't die immediately, but struggled for a moment before finally expiring as Ye Ming approached.

"Wow, this hedgehog looks pretty big!"

Ye Ming pulled the arrow from the dead log and carefully removed the stalk.

The hedgehog looked quite large, with many of its spines missing, likely from a recent battle. Who knows what dared to bite even a hedgehog? There were several tooth marks on its buttocks.

[Ding, Host completes foraging behavior and receives 15 kilograms of porcupine meat and 15 life points.]

"I got 15 life points! That's equivalent to 15 yuan!"

This gave Ye Ming hope, and he wouldn't have to worry about starving for a while.

With these 15 life points, whether they were used directly for food or to improve equipment, Ye Ming would be much better off than he was now.

"It's getting late, I need to go back quickly," he thought, gathering some firewood that didn't look too damp, and then scraping off some hard bark to bundle it up.

"Okay, just change my bow and arrows and clothes, and we can go back."

..

After changing, Ye Ming carried the firewood and the pheasants on his shoulder and headed home.

"Don't you think something's happened to that idiot?"

"It's almost sunset, and he hasn't come back yet," said Huang Dashen worriedly.

"Why bother with him? He brought this upon himself. Are you planning on going up the mountain to look for him? If you want to look for him, I don't care. It's getting late, so I'm going back."

He Chunhua said, preparing to return with the sweet potatoes and grass roots in her bamboo basket.

"What a pity for that idiot kid."

Just when everyone thought Ye Ming was in trouble, he emerged carrying two bleeding pheasants and some firewood.

"Hey, look, he's such a fool!"

"He actually caught something, it looks like a wild boar!"
