Daphne's eyes swept over the grounds, and just then, they landed on a familiar face.
"Kael!" she cried out, her voice filled with a genuine happiness.
She freed her hand from Alaric's and walked toward him. He immediately stopped his sparring, his head bowed, his eyes fixed on the ground.
"How are you?" she asked, her voice soft. "I've missed you."
Kael's eyes remained downcast, "I am well, my Lady. It is good to see you again. I heard about Elara. I am sure she is happy in her new life."
Daphne smiled sadly. "I miss her too Kael."
She didn't notice the dangerous look that had settled on her husband's face.
The man was looking at Kael like he could bury him on the spot.
Just then, a firm hand found its way around her waist.
Alaric's voice was strangely calm.
"Is everything okay here?" he asked, but the question was for Kael, not Daphne.
Kael's shoulders tensed. "Yes, General," he said, "Eve...everything is well."
Only then did Daphne notice the tension.
