Chapter 68 - Strange feeling

A week passed under observation.

After several examinations, Dr. Anderson finally concluded that Jade was stable enough to leave the hospital.

He went through the instructions carefully with Madame Lee.

"She can go home now, but she still needs plenty of rest."

Madame Lee nodded.

"No stress. Don't pressure her to remember anything, and don't try to force memories out of her."

"I understand."

"She'll also need regular follow-ups and rehabilitation. Her body has been inactive for five years, so she'll need time to regain her strength."

Madame Lee nodded again.

"And if she experiences severe headaches, breathing difficulties, confusion, seizures, or anything unusual, bring her back immediately."

"I will."

Dr. Anderson smiled faintly.

"Other than that, she can finally go home."

At the lee's house

The moment Jade stepped through the front door…

She stopped.

Her eyes slowly traveled around the living room.

She looked at the furniture.

The walls.

The decorations.

Then the kitchen.

Then back at her mother.

"…Mom?"

Madame Lee turned toward her.

"What?"

Jade slowly pointed around.

"Are you sure this is our house?"

Madame Lee's heart squeezed.

She knew exactly why Jade didn't recognize it.

Five years had changed almost everything.

"Yes, sweetheart."

Jade walked further inside.

"Because I'm pretty sure our sofa used to look like it had survived three wars."

Gabriel burst out laughing.

Madame Lee couldn't help smiling.

"Things changed."

"Changed?"

Jade stared at the new furniture.

"Mom, this place looks like it belongs to people who actually have money."

Gabriel raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe you became rich while sleeping."

Jade immediately turned toward him.

"Don't joke."

She paused.

"…Wait."

Her eyes widened.

"Did I?"

Gabriel laughed.

"You're unbelievable."

Jade continued exploring the house, completely unaware of the reason behind all those changes.

For five years, Madame Lee had refused to let herself fall apart.

But taking care of everything alone had not been easy.

And Daniel had known that.

From the moment Jade had fallen into a coma, he had quietly made sure her mother lacked nothing.

The house was repaired.

Old furniture was replaced.

The refrigerator was always stocked with fresh food.

Bills were paid.

Medical expenses were handled.

Even small things Madame Lee never thought to ask for somehow appeared when she needed them.

And every time she refused…

The answer was always the same.

"Mr. Ooman insisted."

At first, Madame Lee had been furious.

She had told the employees to take everything back.

She didn't want Daniel's money.

She didn't want his help.

She certainly didn't want to feel indebted to the man she blamed for her daughter's condition.

But Daniel never argued with her.

He never came to demand gratitude.

He simply continued.

Quietly.

From a distance.

As if taking care of Jade's mother was the only thing he could still do for Jade.

Even Gabriel had eventually become irritated by it.

One afternoon, an employee arrived with another delivery.

Gabriel stared at the boxes.

"Again?"

The employee nodded.

"Mr. Ooman sent them."

Gabriel's expression darkened.

"Go tell him something."

The employee immediately became nervous.

"What should I tell him?"

Gabriel folded his arms.

"Tell him we don't need his money."

The employee hesitated.

Gabriel's voice became firmer.

"Mrs. Lee has people who can take care of her."

"Tell Mr. Ooman to stop."

The employee nodded.

"Yes, sir."

But Daniel didn't stop.

Not once.

And Madame Lee had eventually understood something that made her heart ache even more.

Daniel wasn't doing it because he expected something in return.

He wasn't even doing it so Jade's mother would forgive him.

He simply couldn't bear the thought of Jade waking up one day…

And finding out that her mother had struggled while she was gone.

So he made sure she wouldn't.

None of this was known to Jade.

"Who paid for all this?"

Jade slowly turned toward her mother.

Madame Lee froze for half a second.

Then she smiled.

"Don't worry about it."

Jade narrowed her eyes.

"That's exactly what suspicious people say."

Gabriel laughed.

Jade closed the refrigerator.

"Fine."

She pointed at both of them.

"But I'm finding out eventually."

Madame Lee smiled softly.

"Of course."

Jade had no idea…

That the answer was standing somewhere in the shadows of her lost five years.

And she certainly didn't know…

That the man she currently believed had ruined her life…

Had spent those same five years quietly taking care of the woman she loved most.

.

.

.

That night…

Jade was fast asleep.

At first, everything was peaceful.

Then her body suddenly shifted beneath the sheets.

She tossed and turned, her brows furrowing as strange images began flashing through her mind.

A grand ballroom…

The sound of music.

Warm lights.

A hand reaching toward hers.

A familiar warmth she couldn't explain.

A ring.

A woman's voice…

But the words were blurred, impossible to understand.

Then—

A flash of violet light across a dark sky.

A strange constellation.

A feeling of fear.

Then another image.

Someone standing very close to her…

But there was no face.

Nothing she could recognize.

Only a silhouette.

A familiar voice whispered something near her ear, but the words remained completely unclear.

Jade suddenly gasped.

Her eyes flew open.

She sat upright, breathing heavily.

Sweat covered her forehead and neck.

She pressed a hand against her head.

"What…"

Her breathing gradually slowed.

She looked around the dark room.

Everything was silent.

Jade closed her eyes again, trying to remember what she had just seen.

But the images were already disappearing.

The garden having a party.

The lights.

The constellation.

The hand.

That strange feeling…

She couldn't remember a single face.

She couldn't even remember the words she had heard.

Jade frowned.

"What was all that?"

She rubbed her temples.

"It felt so real…"

She stared into the darkness.

For a moment, she wondered if it had simply been a nightmare.

But deep down…

Something told her it wasn't.

Jade slowly pulled the blanket closer to herself.

"…Then what was it?"

She had no answer.

Only fragments.

And a strange feeling that somewhere inside those broken images…

There was something she had once known.
