The rain was now pouring down in heavy sheets. Thunder rolled across the skies, and the streets of the city were drowning in water. Fear could be seen even from a distance...people remained glued to their televisions, their faces pale as they watched the endless reports.
Bai Yin, a police officer with an iron reputation, was the kind of man who had never once abandoned a case. Whatever case he took, he always saw it through.
But this case… he had never imagined he would face something so cruel.
Who would kill children?
And why, at such a tender age?
Until the reports arrived, Bai Yin sat alone on the rooftop, the cold rain soaking into his uniform as he stared into the storm. His thoughts refused to leave the murdered children. His eyes glistened faintly, betraying the sorrow he tried so hard to restrain. But something pressed heavily against his chest, suffocating him.....because he, too, had a little sister.
Moments later, a call came from below: the reports were ready.
Without wasting another second, Bai Yin hurried down, his wet boots striking the floor as he entered the office. He scanned the reports carefully, and in that instant, everything began to make sense.
"Sir, what do you think?" one of the officers asked anxiously.
Bai Yin's voice was grave as he spoke, his eyes still locked on the files.
"There is human skin under the girl's fingernails. No doubt, she tried to claw at her attacker. But the reports show no evidence of violation.....no signs that she was assaulted before death. Perhaps she escaped once… only to be killed later."
He paused, his brows furrowing deeper.
"But there is something more. The tissue under her nails and the estimated time of death do not match. There is a gap of at least four hours. Which means...her attacker tried to assault her, failed, and then returned to kill her. But why the boy? Why kill her younger brother as well?"
At that moment, the sharp sound of heels echoed against the station floor.
A figure entered...Bai Yin's assistant, Officer Xion, her expression cold, her eyes razor-sharp, her presence commanding.
"Maybe," she said firmly, turning her gaze on him, "the boy saw something he wasn't supposed to."
She stepped closer, her voice steady and resolute.
"If possible, we need to run a full test on the skin tissue caught in her nails. And one more thing...collect all the CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Every single camera. We might just find what we're looking for."
