Chapter 191: Satsui Kaito, Completely Deranged
"Fire!"
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
All three warships turned sideways, their cannons roaring at full power. Every Marine on deck was at their post. Chaton, wrapped in bandages, stood at the front, his usual leisurely expression gone.
The surrounding sea was littered with the corpses of Marines and Spectral Demons.
Gion, his face bandaged with one eye covered, stood with his hair, which was acting like extra arms, still gripping his blood-stained swords. Just moments ago, he had single-handedly cut down every infected, rabid Marine on his ship, including two officers of Captain rank.
The power of [Life Return] meant that even though Gion had been the most heavily injured by the Raigo, his condition was now better than Doberman's.
"HQ reinforcements will be here soon. These monsters... this trash... must be completely eliminated, down to the last one!"
Spandam, who had been scared witless, cowered in the cabin. Hearing the Vice Admirals give the order to fire, he poked his head out and shouted, "If that bombardment destroys [El Dorado], the World Government will have your heads!"
Doberman stood behind Spandam, his expression icy. His lips moved, his voice sounding right behind Spandam.
"At a time like this, if one more CP Agency Director is lost in battle... it's just one more line in our report."
"Be smart... Director Spandam."
The cold, drawn-out way he said "Director" sent a jolt of terror through Spandam. He didn't dare fight the real power-holders of Marine HQ for command ever again.
The Navy's greatest asset, the reason they could rule the seas and dominate the first half of the Grand Line, was this exact combination of robust artillery power and massive manpower.
Most pirate crews were blown to bits by cannon fire long before they ever got to the close-quarters boarding battles where their officers could shine.
Tokikake and the others were on guard for a potential attack from Enel, but he never appeared. It seemed he, too, was tied up by the changes on Skuld Island.
This did not put Chaton at ease.
The complexity of the situation here had already surpassed what he, an [Admiral Candidate], could handle. The power of the Logia-user calling himself a god, combined with the endless stream of bizarre phenomena, made Chaton hesitant to go any deeper.
Including Vice Admiral Dalmatian, who had just landed, two Vice Admirals were now on that island with no word back. The island was like an ocean trench, devouring all life.
"Continue the bombardment! Empty every shell we have onto that island!" Gion roared again.
Chaton didn't stop him. He judged that, under these conditions, it was highly unlikely any civilians were left alive.
"Mister... Mister is still on that island!"
A timid voice sounded from behind. Chaton turned. The massive Orkins instinctively tensed his muscles, but then just as quickly relaxed. He could feel that he and these HQ Vice Admirals were in completely different dimensions. It was useless to be on guard.
Cindy was filled with regret. "Mister" had saved her on the sea, but she had been so terrified by the blood on him that she couldn't even say a proper goodbye before he left.
Mister wasn't a normal person, and maybe he wasn't a good person. Cindy could feel it. He wasn't like Uncle Orkins, who just looked gruff but was a pirate, nor was he like Uncle Roshio, the Marine who always complained that everything was useless. Mister was cold, cruel, and had no reverence for life.
He had probably killed a lot of people...
Cindy had always known this. But when she was in despair, trapped in the sewers of Skuld Island by that Priest, she had pinned her hopes on this "great villain" to solve everything...
It was like all those times she had hated the "God's" brutality. Rather than watch more good people die, she would pray for an even more vicious bastard to come and inflict an even more brutal revenge on that God.
To fight evil with evil, to be more evil than evil...
Cindy wasn't as innocent as she looked, and she felt guilty for thinking such things.
Chaton just glanced at the small girl. These two would probably be the only survivors of this incident...
"Vice Admiral! A large number of unidentified ships approaching from the rear!"
"Vice Admiral! A communication from HQ! They order us to cooperate with the World Government and seize [El Dorado]!"
"Lord Tokikake, HQ reports the Donquixote Family has been spotted in the waters near Mock Town!"
"Lady Gion, word is that the 'Gold Emperor,' Gild Tesoro, has appeared in the first half of the Grand Line and is heading this way!"
On all three ships, the communication officers were suddenly frantic, a flood of reports coming in at once.
Tokikake and the others had excellent hearing and took in every message. He took a deep breath. Clearly, the allure of [El Dorado] was far greater than imagined. The real major players of the world were starting to take notice.
"Request Admiral support. I believe the intensity of this war has already far exceeded our ability to handle it," Chaton said.
But the next moment, a Marine burst from the cabin, shouting excitedly, "Vice Admiral Garp is en route to this location!"
[You are being Transformed by God Hand: Roland. Attention, EX051, your bloodline is undergoing Apostle-ization...]
[Apostle-ization Failed.]
[You are being eroded by Biological Prosthetic: The King's Left Arm. Attention, EX051, you are about to enter a Near-Death state...]
[You are being Transformed by God Hand: Roland. Cellular activity is abnormally high...]
A stream of notifications flashed before Kaito's eyes, repeating over and over like a system bug.
Kaito's body, under the immense drain of flesh and life energy from the King's Left Arm, couldn't keep up. It was decaying rapidly. Because of this, his defenseless body couldn't resist Roland's corruption.
As a result, Kaito's cells became hyper-activated. His body was now completely encased in tumors, each bearing a human face, as if he were in a cocoon.
The God Hand's transformation could never complete, because that massive boost of vitality and energy was immediately drained by the King's Left Arm. The two malignant forces had, to a certain extent, reached an equilibrium.
Kaito's body had become a container for them both.
He calmly felt the changes in his body, moment by moment. His [Transparent World] seemed to have advanced, allowing him to observe even more. The way his organs were regenerating. The way his energy was draining. The path of his blood. The abnormal, siphoning power from his left arm.
Kacha!
Kaito's left hand suddenly twitched. The withered, numb arm now looked almost normal. Though the skin was still dry, the muscles beneath were full again. Every time Kaito's blood flowed into it, it felt like it was instantly set on fire.
Kaito could feel a powerful, magma-like energy gathering in the arm. Just clenching his left fist, he felt an explosive power.
"Yes... that's it..."
"Only by mastering this arm... can we wield the sword Guts left... We can..."
"Kill that son of a bitch, the God of the Abyss!"
The whisper appeared in Kaito's mind. He froze, looking at his notification panel. Nothing.
A white light enveloped Kaito. He didn't even notice that his right hand, which usually swirled with crimson light, was now covered in a pure, holy white light.
[Virtue Sequence - Third Rank - Morning Star of Hope]
Roland's liquid-like form seeped out from the giant arm's faces and began to wrap around Kaito's body. His mind began to invade. This was his resurrection. He had been waiting for this possibility, a chance to get revenge on the God of the Abyss.
The tragedy of Guts and himself... it shouldn't have ended like that. And so, he had received [Hope].
He looked at Kaito with mercy. But the next second, his face began to twist. He could no longer suppress his malice. He had to incarnate now, or he would never be able to leave this world, never be a Reincarnator again.
His own body was broken, but if he got this one... the "Captain" and the "Black Kings" would finally accept him...
Roland's thoughts were chaotic, illogical, without cause or effect. He was acting purely on obsession, his mind disjointed, but he was convinced he was right. Because he had seen this possibility in the brief time after he became a [God Hand].
He had chosen to stand on this path of causality. Even if he was killed, trapped in this derivative world, imprisoned, and electrocuted... he was certain this was how the future would unfold.
He would be resurrected in a new form, inside this body with far greater talent.
[The Child of the Morning Star is destined to fall into darkness.]
This was the Law of Causality. The Virtue-series Reincarnator, the Morning Star of Hope, would ultimately fall to the path of the Crimson Great Sin.
It was how the world was meant to be.
His body gradually merged into Kaito's. But Kaito's left arm suddenly clenched its fist.
Black lightning and fire erupted at once.
Bang!
The surrounding flesh cocoon exploded, the faces representing every intense human desire shattering one by one.
Kaito's face was split: one-half was serene and peaceful, the other was twisted in a cruel smile.
"You want my body? Then let's make it a real party..."
[You have used Legacy Crystal: Satsui no Hado.]
A wave of purple-black energy sank into Kaito's body.
Kill!
Slaughter!
Massacre!
Butcher!
Kill! Kill! Kill!
A maddening killing intent instantly tore Kaito's mind apart. Even his max-level Spirit stat couldn't withstand the surging 'Satsui'.
The muscles on Kaito's face twisted into a snarl, and even the serene half could no longer remain calm.
"You want my body? Then all of you can fight for it!"
Kaito's body already held a great hidden danger—the countless spirits (Yin-spirits) lurking within. With his main consciousness suppressed by two external forces, the spirits saw their chance. In an instant, black spiritual energy began to flicker across his body.
"Ha... Haha..."
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
Amidst the crazed laughter, the thousand-meter-high arm began to shatter, inch by inch. Blood and debris rained down like a waterfall, drowning everything.
