Chapter 131: The One Born of the Final Sun
"Tsk. That Mercenary Tao guy is really something else."
Kalpa sat on the sofa of a luxurious villa. Outside the window was a beautiful ocean view. On the other side of the sofa was the completely naked, blonde-haired beauty, Annie—the hero known as [Starlight]. The woman's eyes were vacant, and the tatters of her rather risqué hero costume were scattered around her. She had clearly been through a harrowing ordeal.
Kalpa watched the television with immense satisfaction.
The nationwide protests had exploded. Homelander was flying through the air, single-handedly forcing the government's military to retreat. A single blast of his heat-vision had effortlessly destroyed a main battle tank. That absolute, superhuman power had sent the massive crowd of gangsters and extremists behind him into a frenzy of excitement. In this act of crushing the traditional echelons of power, they were all receiving a massive hit of dopamine.
Just this morning, Homelander had held a massive press conference, announcing that because he had spoken up for B45 and other disadvantaged groups, he was now being targeted by the American government. His freedom of speech had been violated, and it was now affecting Vought's development. This explosive statement had caused a global sensation. The related videos and articles were spreading like wildfire online, impossible to contain. The CEOs of Twitter and YouTube were in a difficult position. On one side, they had the hysterical demands of the government. On the other, they had a personal death threat from Homelander. One by one, they had all chosen to take their private jets on an extended "vacation," temporarily escaping a country that was rapidly deteriorating to the brink of civil war.
The mighty empire seemed about to collapse.
Even for a Reincarnator like Kalpa, whose abilities were perfectly suited for stirring up trouble, he had to admit that this "Mercenary Tao" was a natural-born villain. To have incited such massive chaos, starting from a single neighborhood gang… perhaps, if his plan truly succeeded and the country's order completely collapsed, it wasn't impossible that he could earn an A-rank Singularity.
Kalpa spat a bone out of his mouth. He was eating greasy fried chicken, but as he watched Homelander on the screen, he made a gun with his hand and mimed a shot.
A pity, he thought. This isn't a world that a single Homelander can conquer.
Ding-dong.
The doorbell rang. Kalpa tilted his chin up. Starlight, still naked, stood up and robotically opened the door.
With a cry of shock and a roar of rage from Hughie, Butcher walked in, his expression grim. Behind him were Queen Maeve and A-Train. They both glanced at Starlight, their expressions wary.
Hughie wrapped his own coat around Annie. His eyes were red with fury, and he kept trying to charge at Kalpa, but Butcher held him back with one arm.
"Sorry, sorry," Kalpa said with a lazy drawl, showing no regard for Hughie's anger. "I didn't know she was your woman, so I did a few things… Ha. I'm done with her now. You can have her back."
BAM!
Queen Maeve instantly appeared in front of Kalpa and sent him flying into a wall with a single punch. She followed up with a stomp, caving in his abdomen, then turned to Butcher. "I see no reason to cooperate with this piece of trash."
A-Train also glanced at Kalpa, then turned to leave. His shoulder was still heavily bandaged; his wound had not yet fully healed.
But Butcher stopped them. He looked at Kalpa, who was already slowly regenerating, and explained, "Whether you believe it or not, this guy has a way to kill Homelander."
Kalpa climbed to his feet. His hip bone had been completely shattered, so he was standing at a strange, broken angle. A careless smile was on his face. He ignored Hughie's pain. "You Americans should have a more open attitude about sex. I am a man of spiritual cultivation, and I have seen through such worldly attachments. Why would you give up the only chance in your life to fight back against Homelander over such a trivial matter?"
His words made A-Train turn back. He saw the mocking look in the man's eyes. A-Train was afraid of Homelander, but he didn't hate him. But this time, the man who had nearly killed him was now working with Homelander. This new alliance terrified him. After Maeve had moved him, she had told him that the man called "Mercenary Tao" was still looking for him. In the end, A-Train had agreed to meet with Butcher, the man who held a deep-seated hatred for Homelander. And through him, he had met this Asian man, the one who was hiding in the shadows, who had directed Butcher to contact Maeve in the first place and had been gathering powerful allies.
At that moment, a blond, youthful man walked in from outside. He looked around the room, his expression full of suspicion, and seemed on the verge of turning and leaving. Although Butcher had told him that his brother had been captured and experimented on by Vought, [Golden Boy] felt that the men in this room were clearly not good people, either.
Seeing the chaotic scene, Kalpa clapped his hands. A golden light began to spread, and the anxiety and fear in everyone's hearts was soothed. They slowly calmed down. Only Hughie showed a clear resistance, and his nose began to bleed.
Butcher frowned, grabbed both Hughie and Annie, and threw them out of the room.
This act made Maeve frown. If she remembered correctly, Butcher was supposed to be a normal human.
Kalpa, seeing that everyone was now calm, pointed at the television, where the terrifying Supe, Homelander, had now brought the city's traffic and government to a complete standstill with his supporters. "I have an ability that can absolutely kill him. But to use it… is very troublesome. The price is very high…"
"What do you want?" Butcher was all too familiar with this kind of negotiation. As long as he could kill Homelander, he didn't care about the price.
Kalpa smiled, his eyes brazenly looking over Queen Maeve. Just before she exploded, he changed the subject. "I need the formula for Compound V. And… you need to help me ensure that a certain person can get close to Homelander."
Maeve frowned. She trusted Kalpa even less now. "Butcher, do you really believe this guy can kill Homelander?!"
Butcher nodded. He had witnessed Kalpa begin to use that technique once before. The sheer heat… he himself had taken Compound V and now had powers similar to Homelander's, but he knew he could have never withstood the feeling of that "great sun rising." In that moment, he had felt a clear and certain sense of his own annihilation.
"Yes," Butcher said. "I'm sure he can."
His words silenced the room. Finally, Maeve looked at the chaos on the streets of New York, at Homelander's ever-growing number of supporters, at the nation grinding to a halt, and she relented. "Fine. Let's go kill… Homelander."
Kalpa clasped his hands together. Behind him, the spectral image of a great sun slowly began to appear. He frowned, and began to chant the name of a certain being.
"O One Born of the Final Day, Dominator of the Mental Dimension, the King whom I obey… your humble servant, Kalpa, prays for the descent of the Final Day…"
