Chapter 24 - Chapter 23: The Whispering Shard [Epilogue]

Far from Ashkara's battered Citadel, beneath the earth where light dared not tread, something stirred.

The cavern was silent save for the steady drip of water echoing on stone. At its heart lay an altar, ancient and half-buried, etched with runes long forgotten. For centuries, it had been nothing but a ruin — until Nyasha's fires shook the land.

The cracks spread like veins of lightning across the altar. From within the stone, a glow pulsed — faint at first, then rising, alive.

A shard, jagged and black as obsidian, forced itself free from the rock. Its edges bled red light, and its whispers filled the cavern like a chorus of serpents.

"The anchors fall. The girl burns. The balance breaks…"

A figure approached, cloaked in shadows. His face was hidden, but his presence filled the chamber with weight — a commander of the Covenant, perhaps, or something far worse. He reached for the shard, and though it scorched his hand, he did not flinch.

The whispers swelled.

"The Soulfire awakens. The time has come. Gather the Coven. Raise the armies. The fires will consume her… or we will."

The man smiled beneath his hood, eyes reflecting the shard's glow.

"At last," he murmured. "The fire will serve us… or it will break her."

Far above, in Ashkara, Nyasha stirred in her sleep, her chest tightening as if some unseen hand pressed against her heart. The war was not over. It had only shifted.

The shard pulsed once more, its light cutting through the dark like a wound in the world.

And then, silence.
