Chapter 1 - Chapter 1:Ready to love

Amanda sat by the wide window of her bungalow, confidently observing the evening sky transform into vibrant shades of orange, pink, and deep purple. The sunset reflected her image across the glass, a reminder of the life she had meticulously crafted by the age of twenty. Many women twice her age still struggled to attain what she already possessed: a stylish yet modest home standing proudly on its own land, a sleek Camry glinting in the driveway, and a respected position at one of the country's leading oil companies.

Success had come early to her; tonight, however, Amanda's heart craved something more profound.

She wrapped her arms around herself, a self-assured smile gracing her lips. "I've worked hard for three years. I've built my own life. Now... I am ready for marriage."

The word danced on her tongue marriage, love. These were two concepts she had kept at bay while fiercely pursuing her ambitions. Her colleagues often joked about their boyfriends or fiancés, and Amanda laughed along. Yet, beneath that laughter lay a realization that she had overlooked something essential. She had turned countless admirers away, brushing them off with polite smiles and cool refusals, never allowing anyone close enough to truly connect.

But now, a persistent question lingered: Had she been too quick to shut them out?

Days ago, in the office cafeteria, Amanda had paused, spoon suspended in midair. Across the room, a young couple laughed over a shared meal, their shoulders brushing, hands touching—every exchanged glance filled with warmth. Amanda looked away quickly, but not before experiencing a sudden flicker deep within her. It wasn't jealousy; it was a hollow ache—loneliness.

Leaning her head against the windowpane, she sighed. Despite her numerous achievements, her world felt incomplete. She had friends at work, acquaintances at church, and neighbors who greeted her warmly, but not a single person truly knew her heart. Not a man she could call her own.

For the first time in years, Amanda recognized that while her wealth could fill her purse, it could not warm her bed or provide solace in the heavier moments of life.

Yet, she was no fool. She wouldn't surrender her heart to the first man who offered flattery. No—Amanda wanted more. She sought someone strong enough to stand by her side, patient enough to break through her walls, and tender enough to appreciate the woman behind her polished success.

A daring smile played on her lips as she contemplated her next move. How could she discover who truly cared?

Her gaze swept across the room, and a bold idea began to take shape. What if she tested them? What if she pushed them away, acted cold or unkind? The men drawn only to beauty or wealth would leave. But the one who remained—the one who stood his ground—would be worthy of unlocking her heart.

The thrill of this idea quickened her pulse. Amanda envisioned herself dismissing a suitor's compliments, setting challenges, perhaps even feigning difficulty. Would any man have the resolve to scale those walls for her?

She rose from her chair, fueled by newfound determination. Tomorrow represented another opportunity—a chance to work, to live, to love, or perhaps to test fate itself.

Yet, as Amanda moved away from the window, a shiver coursed through her. It felt as if the night air carried a whisper, a promise she had yet to uncover.

Little did she know, fate had already set things in motion. Somewhere nearby, someone's gaze lingered on her just a moment too long, and someone's heart beat faster whenever she came into view. Her secret admirer was waiting, and soon, her test of love would commence—not just for the men around her, but for Amanda's guarded heart as well.
