Chapter 87 - [87] Positive and Negative New

Kaien peeked through a narrow gap and saw the situation clearly now.

Samui was engaged with the kitsune-masked boy, he was fast and precise and there was no wasted movement. Neither had landed a decisive blow yet, but the pressure was building. Mabui was dealing with the other boy, keeping him contained, though her movements were flexible, she was bending in angles Guy didn't expect.

Renga and Might Duy were further off, their clash was on next level, sending termors through the ground.

Kaien exhaled slowly. He selected one kunai and handed it to Darui.

"I want you to coat this in your strongest Storm Release," Kaien said. "Then throw it at the kitsune-masked boy. Aim to force a block or deflection with his tonto and don't let him completely avoid it."

Darui didn't argue as he wanted to see for himself. He channeled chakra instantly, lightning and water weaving together around his arm, crackling softly as it wrapped the kunai.

He threw the kunai coated in storm release, it cut through the air like a streak of light, fast enough to draw attention without being impossible to track.

Kakashi sensed it immediately.

He had already felt something off. Two presences beyond the immediate fight around 200 meters away. Still, Samui demanded his full focus. He couldn't afford to disengage. This lady was a formidable opponent though it was not enough to dominant him... but he had to be cautious.

When the storm-coated kunai entered his range, he reacted instinctively. Chakra surged into his tantō, lightning flaring along its edge as he slashed outward.

His tonto cleanly hit the kunai and was deflected cleanly, spinning away into the dirt.

Kaien's heart jumped.

Success.

"That worked," Kaien said under his breath. "If he'd dodged, this wouldn't have mattered."

Darui frowned. "Explain. Quickly."

Kaien didn't waste time. "My positive seal isn't on the kunai itself anymore. It transferred to him."

Darui's eyes widened slightly.

"When his tontō made contact," Kaien continued, "the positive seal imprinted onto his tontō and the boy itself. I controlled the seal move in his blind spot under the hand. But now, anything marked with a negative seal will be attracted toward him if it is within a ten-meter radius."

Darui's mouth twitched. "You're turning him into a magnet."

"Similar but," Kaien said. "It's chakra-based attraction. I'm still too weak to make it overwhelming. But weapons will drift, throws will curve and the timing will feel off."

Kaien pulled out four more kunai, each marked with the opposite seal.

"I have three positive-seal kunai left," he added. "And four negative. I can't overwhelm him, but I can distract him."

Darui followed the logic instantly. "Samui doesn't need much. Just a half-second opening."

"Exactly," Kaien said. "We wait."

On the battlefield, Kakashi frowned beneath his mask. Something felt off.

His instincts told him nothing concrete. Not enough to alarm him outright, but enough to irritate him. As he thought, What was the purpose of such an obvious throw.

His attention began to split.

And that was the point. Kaien raised one negative-seal kunai, feeling the faint pull in his hand towards kakashi even from this distance though it was very weak. The positive seal was responding.

"Now," Kaien whispered.

Darui threw. The kunai didn't fly straight. It arced unnaturally, bending toward Kakashi's position as if nudged by an invisible hand.

Kakashi's eye widened a fraction as he noticed it too late.

Samui moved. Her blade flashed forward, exploiting the moment of distraction Kaien had given. It wasn't a killing blow, but it forced Kakashi to retreat a step, recalibrating his next moves.

Kaien's chest tightened with fierce satisfaction. He wasn't on the front line but he was finally part of the fight. I am not useless.

Then an idea came to Kaien. "Darui-san," he said softly, eyes never leaving the battlefield, "throw a positive-seal kunai at the monkey-masked boy."

Darui did not question it as he wondered what was the point of this. The moment Kaien finished speaking, the implication unfolded clearly in his mind.

So, Repulsion it is. It will hinder their team attacks.

If both were standing still, feet planted, they could resist it easily by grounding themselves, letting the earth take the strain. But movement was another matter entirely. Walking, running, jumping, lunging... any action where balance shifted meant at least one foot left the ground. In that instant, the force would assert itself, subtle but unavoidable, pushing them apart, breaking coordination, ruining timing make it difficult to be closer than 10 meters their by avoiding any team attacks.

Darui's lips curved slightly. "So you're isolating them."

Kaien nodded. "At best, they can't support each other. At worst, they get in each other's way. It's not game-changing. The monkey boy can brute-force through it."

"Distractions kill," Darui replied as he appreciated kaien. "Don't be pessimistic, believe in your senpai who are fighting."

He channeled storm release again, chakra flowing cleanly. The kunai hummed as lightning wrapped around it, and then Darui threw.

On the battlefield, the kitsune-masked boy... Kakashi... felt it immediately.

Not the kunai itself, but the intent behind it he already experienced.

"Saru, don't block that! Avoid it" he shouted.

Might Guy reacted on instinct, twisting his body mid-step, letting the kunai pass. He avoided it cleanly.

Because Mabui was also watching her opponent dodge.

She had been waiting for an opening. The moment Guy dodged, his balance shifted, weight transferring, guard momentarily open. Mabui surged forward and kicked... not at Guy, but at the kunai itself.

The impact redirected it sharply. Guy had no time to adjust. The kunai struck him, though it did no damage.

The positive seal is transferred.

At that exact moment, Kaien's face tightened in concentration.

What followed was not simple repulsion. It was conflict.

Kakashi was already marked with a positive seal. Any new positive seal within the ten-meter influence radius would instinctively repel from him. The battlefield geometry worked against Kaien now. Guy was close to Kakashi. The seal wanted to move away from kakashi and there by Guy who is within 10 meters range of kakashi.

Kaien felt the tug in his mind, as he controlled the movement of the seal resisting its intent to repel away.

He grit his teeth as his hands trembled slightly and he forced chakra into the seal remotely, overriding its natural drift, pushing it toward Guy instead of away.

Sweat beaded on his forehead. Darui glanced at him, surprised. "You're steering the kunai?"

"Barely," Kaien muttered. "Just enough, it is draining too much of my mental energy."

On the field, the effect was immediate as soon as the seal was placed on Guy.

Guy took a step toward Kakashi... and stumbled half a pace sideways instead. Not enough to fall as he readjust his balance.

He frowned. "Huh?"

Kakashi felt it too. A faint resistance when he shifted position, like moving against a crosswind that didn't exist a while ago.

Their spacing was off and their rhythm broke. And suddenly, any attempt to coordinate... covering angles, rotating offense, backing each other up... required conscious effort.

That effort cost time and effort. He had to expend a small bit of extra energy which would effect in the long run battle.

A/N: Kaien displays his powers for the first time. I wanted his powers to be kunai instead of just learning fire, lightning, water or stuff which are pretty basic. With this powers I can write interesting scenarios.
