Chapter 132: The Blind Lawyer

[Contact with a Twisted Time Node, a small amount of Time Shards collected x1]

Anti-World, New York.

Frontline Press.

"Kent, someone's here for you!"

Pushing open the office door, a reporter from the press called out to Colin at his desk.

Someone's here for me?

An expression of confusion appeared on Colin's face as he heard his colleague's call. He subconsciously used his [Super X-Ray Vision] to take a look outside.

There, in the hallway of the press, a figure holding a white cane and wearing sunglasses stood waiting in silence.

As he saw the figure in his [Super X-Ray Vision], a flicker of astonishment crossed Colin's eyes behind his glasses.

Matt Murdock. Or, Daredevil.

He was one of the few active street-level superheroes with a legitimate profession.

His identity as a blind lawyer had earned him some renown in New York City. After all, a blind person passing the bar and becoming a lawyer through his own efforts was, by any measure, a newsworthy story.

Furthermore, due to his strong sense of justice, most of the cases Matt took were pro bono. As a result, despite being a lawyer, his income wasn't high, barely enough to keep his law firm breaking even.

Information about Matt Murdock quickly flashed through his mind.

At the same time, Colin felt a little puzzled. Why would the man come to the press to find him, or rather, to find Clark Kent?

The two of them had no connection whatsoever.

Though he was inwardly confused, Colin had no intention of letting this [Time Shard] that had delivered itself to his doorstep get away.

He stood up from his desk, feigning puzzlement, and walked out to address Matt in the hallway.

"You are?"

"Mr. Clark Kent."

Hearing the footsteps approaching from within the press, Matt turned, his face reflected in his sunglasses. He stopped precisely in front of Colin and said in a low voice, "You are in a very dangerous situation."

Dangerous?

Hearing Matt's warning, Colin's eyes narrowed imperceptibly behind his glasses.

Connecting this to the man's other identity, he immediately understood what danger he was referring to.

On the surface, however, he maintained a look of surprise, frowning at the blind lawyer before him. "And you are?"

"Matt Murdock. I'm a lawyer."

Matt promptly stated his identity in response to Colin's question.

"A lawyer?"

Hearing the self-introduction, Colin put on a matching expression of doubt, looking Matt up and down. His gaze lingered for a moment on the man's sunglass-covered eyes and the white cane in his hand.

Though the chemical agent had cost Matt his sight, it had drastically enhanced his other four senses.

With his super senses, he could clearly feel Colin's gaze upon him. Matt's expression didn't change much; he was already used to people staring at him.

"I remember now. You're that blind lawyer."

At the same time, Colin, standing before Matt, feigned a look of sudden realization.

"I've read reports about you."

With Matt's identity confirmed, the conversation proceeded more smoothly. Thinking back to the man's earlier warning, Colin immediately frowned and asked with a serious expression.

"Mr. Matt, what danger are you talking about?"

Noticing the change in Colin's attitude, Matt silently breathed a sigh of relief.

At least the man now believed his words.

Then, Matt continued in a deep voice, "It's the Mayor of New York City, Wilson Fisk. Or perhaps I should say, Kingpin."

"Kingpin?"

Although Colin already knew Kingpin's true identity and the name he used in the underworld, he still acted as if he were hearing the name for the first time, muttering the name Matt had just spoken.

Sensing the 'astonishment' in Colin's tone, Matt nodded. "That's right. Kingpin. That's the name Wilson Fisk uses on the other side, the one unknown to outsiders. It's the identity he uses to control New York's underground organizations. In addition to being a businessman on the surface, Kingpin is also the leader whose name strikes fear into the hearts of New York's entire criminal underworld."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Matt."

Faced with Matt's claims, Colin displayed the skepticism expected of a reporter. "Are you saying that our Mayor of New York, Mr. Wilson Fisk, is not only a businessman but also the leader who controls the city's criminal underworld? Are you sure this isn't the plot of some film? After all, the gap between the Mayor of New York and a crime lord is..."

Matt wasn't at all surprised by Colin's skepticism. In fact, he had anticipated this reaction.

After all, if he hadn't spent years fighting against Kingpin in Hell's Kitchen as Daredevil, he wouldn't know the true face behind the Mayor of New York either.

Therefore, after patiently waiting for Colin to express his doubts, Matt continued in his steady voice, "I can understand your skepticism at this moment, Mr. Kent. But, I ask you to think carefully about what you've reported on before. Before Kingpin became a successful businessman, isn't there something suspicious about his past?"

"Those rivals who once competed with Kingpin in business, what happened to them in the end? All of this proves that Kingpin is no ordinary businessman."

The questions Matt raised had, in fact, vaguely pointed to the problem with Kingpin's identity.

"..."

In response, Colin played his part perfectly, remaining silent.

He looked as if he had been shaken by his words.

"So, you're saying that Wilson—no, Kingpin—is going to make a move on me?"

After a long pause, Colin finally broke the silence and asked Matt.

"In fact, Kingpin has already made his move," Matt replied decisively.

"I don't know, Mr. Kent, do you remember those two guys you reported on who were hung from a telephone pole?"

*Of course I remember. I'm the one who hung them up there.*

Colin said this silently to himself, but on the outside, he feigned surprise.

"You mean those two idiot suspects?"

"Those two were originally meant to be a warning from Kingpin because your previous reports had affected his position as Mayor. But it seems a problem occurred along the way, and the warning was never delivered to you."

Evidently, Matt had already investigated the recent events, even ascertaining the identities of the two men who had been tailing him.

"Knowing Kingpin as I do, he certainly won't let this go. And what comes next is when the real danger begins."
