Elias had just started to believe they might make it. That fragile, foolish hope shattered when a branch snapped.
"There," a voice slurred. "I smell them."
Light cut through the leaves. A hand tore at the bushes, fingers closing painfully around Kenzie's arm. She screamed, the sound ripping out of her, and Elias lunged on instinct only to be dragged back hard by the collar of his jacket.
"Got the other one!"
Kenzie was yanked upright, two men gripping her as she kicked and fought, her nails clawing uselessly at their arms. Elias tried to reach her, tried to scream her name, but a fist slammed into his stomach, driving the air clean out of his lungs.
He folded with a strangled gasp. Another blow followed. Then another.
"You omegas think you're bold now," one of them sneered, hauling Elias to his feet only to shove him back down. "Running your mouths. Throwing punches."
