Chapter 46 - Pursuit of the Pursuer (II)

"The one who escorted you here is Sir Chiron. Head servant of the house, and your Sentinel mentor. He is also the family healer. As your new instructor, he deserves your utmost respect."

The servant gave an elegant bow. His greying side-parted hair falling a little over his face. "At your service, Noble Kuno."

"Those two will be your companions for the duration of your training. The one on the left is my son, Leo, while on the right is my Substitute, Rin Reyguard. I will allow you to get yourselves acquainted." He finished.

That guy is the Lord's Substitute?! Him! Why?!

He's weak! Not to mention the Lord's son is right there! There's no way he's okay with this!

…Does this Rin guy actually have a Lord Will?

Giving the two of them a good look, the probe automatically energized with activity. Enough for me to read simple thoughts.

If it's this strong despite unwilling probes, it's a dominant thought.

'Orange.'

That's what they're thinking? Why are they thinking about—

"Are you two thinking about my hair?!!!" I yelled out. Taking a step forward, raising my fist in the air.

The son, Leo, immediately clutched his stomach in a fit of laughter.

The Substitute scratched the back of his neck… embarrassed?

"Alright, that's it! You two piss me off!" I shouted louder.

The Substitute, Rin, stopped scratching his neck, looking me dead in the eyes. Like he wanted to kill me. "Sorry, I don't mean to be rude. It's just so… bright. And… wild."

Caught off guard by his conflicting expressions, my anger faltered a little, in place of confusion and worry.

The son, between fits of laughter, attempting to reason himself. "Li–like my bro said, it's so wild!" Out of breath, he gestured to my head with both arms. "Yeeeahhh, he's a true Mind-Will Holder alright! Through and through. A true enemy of privacy." His voice quickly shifted sinisterly. Staring down at me with a murderous glint. "It's their vice."

Fighting through the quivers running along my body, I was about to shout out again when the son's eye sparkled softly, calling out to someone behind me. "Oh, hey sis!"

Following the direction he was looking, I turned towards the elevator.

"Come meet our Sentinel! He's a real hot-head!" He waved.

"Are you seriou--!" Just as I was about to snap my head back in his direction, I caught ‌sight of an angel.

A beautiful, golden-haired girl. Her… 'shadow' was a little creepy, but all my attention was on her.

If Monarchs did exist, there was no doubt she was one of them.

She walked with the grace of a queen, each step empowered by a confidence only gained with someone of her beauty. Her hair bounced fluidly with every step. Sending shivers down parts of my body I didn't know could shiver. Her perfect hazel eyes shined with the magnificence of jewels. Only no gem could ever hope to match her radiance. Her peachy red cheeks looked so soft; I wanted nothing more than to hold them in my hands.

Her body was perfect. Every curve, edge, and bend made my mouth water. Looking lower, I—

"Heeey there paaalll. You better not be lookin' where I think you are?" The son rests his hand on my right shoulder, leaning his face closer and closer. His voice a mixture of creepy banter. Almost condescending.

"You're not trying to talk to her, are you?" The Substitute leaned on my left shoulder, his voice dark and oppressive. Not joking at all.

All the warmth in my body disappeared. So deep not even the radiance of the angel could reach.

Why must all beautiful things be so far out of my reach?

"Rin!" The son jumped up, shaking my frozen body. "You were supposed to sound lighthearted and creepy. Not completely monotone, scary, and depressive." He whined.

Scratching the back of his neck. "Ah, my bad."

The angel's shadow goes to stand beside Elgin, while she walks up to me.

Looking down at me, glaring daggers, I slowly crane my eyes upward. Staring at her beautiful face.

No…! The love of my life is taller than me!

That hurts a lot.

"So, this is him?" She says with no love in her voice, or heart, or… mind.

"You betcha!" The son jumps to her side.

"His name is Kuno Kaspar. Grandnephew of Lord Oberfell, whoever that is." The Substitute shrugged.

How dare he shrug! My Great-Uncle is the greatest mind the Lords have ever seen.

"Lord Oberfell… is the Mind Vestige." The angel shifted her glaring eyes from me to the Substitute. Her face betraying no emotions of love, or even like for that matter.

"Oh, right. Lord Othmar." He nodded.

Laughing internally, I shifted my head to stare at the Substitute. Flashing him a mischievous grin.

He glanced at me for only a second. Ignoring my clear declaration of war!

She will be mine first, I tell you! First!

Elgin stepped forward, holding the angel's shadow in his arms. "This here is my wife, Phia. If there is one person you shall respect during your time here, it is her. But you do well to respect everyone." He added coldly. "That there is my daughter, Lavinia."

L-a-v-i-n-i-a.

I played with her name in my mind.

I will remember your name forever, angel.

"As everyone is here, shall we explain what their training exercise will be?" The servant stepped forward, walking over to Elgin.

"Of course. Let's all head outside." He responded.

Walking into the elevator, I stood beside the angel Lavinia, with the son on the other side of her.

That was until a tense pressure tugged on my right shoulder.

Tossed to the side, I ungracefully stumbled into the wall.

Looking over my shoulder, the Substitute stood a few feet behind Lavinia, with his arm relaxed in his pocket, staring straight ahead.

The bretch isn't even standing beside her!

Glancing around the elevator, no one even acknowledged his clear physical and emotional torment.

All I want is to be beside my angel!

I went to move back beside her, only for the Substitute to take his hand out of his pocket, eyeing me threateningly.

Deciding near the wall is a better place to be, I look toward the front of the elevator.
