Chapter 2 - 2 - MOUNT VERNON

Eira found herself outside the house and she groaned.

"Geez! I couldn't even vanish long distances and can't teleport at all. I'm so useless!"

She immediately started running to save her head. There's no way she'd die after all the pain her mother went through to keep her alive.

Her mother had died protecting her and it'll be a waste of her effort if she died. She had thought Lyra was there to help her, her intuition told her that too, but she was wrong—her intuition too.

It was afternoon already and the sun was like a blazing furnace. She didn't have any money on her, so she obviously can't board a bus.

"My child, what brings you to this path? My house is around the corner, come on in and have lunch, you look tired and hungry."

A voice called and Eira snapped her neck to look at her. She was a witch!

The witch looked normal—auburn hair, brown eyes, rosy lips, scanty brows and an average height.

Eira could still smell magic on her, but she need to hide from Lyra who was probably after her.

"Look, I don't want to trust you but I'll do now because I need help. My auntie turned out to be an evildoer and I need to master the art of magic. What do I do?"

"Well, trust me and come into the house. I have a solution."

She stared at her and entered the house. Her voice stopped her from moving further.

"I'll send you to Mount Vernon."

"What ?????????" Eira shrieked in horror, "Mount Vernon is far and Lyra would find me by then and besides, I have no luggage with me."

She gave her a reassuring smile and pointed at a luggage, "You can have this. It belonged to my daughter but she's married now. You can take it with you, if you want to go. I'll prepare you to leave at nightfall and I'll protect you with my magic and I'll give you a bracelet to keep you safe till you get to Mount Vernon's portal."

"I'll leave tonight then. I need to kill Lyra or at least stop her before she does something stupid to this city. And I think I'll take the food now."Eira muttered with her stomach growling.

The woman giggled, "Yes, dear. You'll be needing it, alongside some food and money. The journey will cost you eight days, I'll give you everything you need to go."

"Why are you helping me without asking for anything in return?" Eira asked, giving her a quizzical look.

"Because you're a sweet soul. Now, let's get you ready for Mount Vernon."

The witch gave me a reassuring smile—one that held a lot of meaning to it.

"Hey!" Eira called and she gave her a side look.

"What's your name?"

"Kira"

"Thank you, Kira."

"Thank the Heavens instead."

Eight Days Later....

Mount Vernon, 4:00 pm

Eira carried her luggage carefully as she stared at the portal. Ordinary people would see a fence but supernaturals would see a portal leading into the school.

She sighed for the umpteenth time as she entered the portal. This was it.

She needs to master her powers so she could defeat her evil Mistress, Lyra.

Seconds later, she landed on the floor and sprawled like a blanket.

"Would you get up miss, or do you enjoy lying about?" An arrogant voice scoffed.

"Is this Mount Vernon?" She asked the girl standing before her.

"Wht else does this place look like? Or does this look like a playground for kids?"

The strange lady gruffed arrogantly and walked away, leaving her staring.

"Geez, did she have to be rude and annoying? Where do I follow now, how do I find her, and I'm still on the floor. Arrrrrrrgh." Eira ruffled her hair in frustration.

"Hey damsel! I'm the host with the most, I'm Superior Shaun but you can call me Shaun. I'm the Superior in charge of welcoming newbies and I'm so sorry if you met Ceres, she's my rather unfortunate assistant." He said without breathing.

Eira looked at him as though he were mad or deranged.

"So, what's your name and where are you from?" He continued his babbling.

Eira scoffed, "Won't you at least help me get up before you kill me with your questionings?"

"My bad, damsel."

He said and lifted her up with his fingers and turned her properly, before taking her luggage from her and making it vanish.

"Hey! Yah! Where did my luggage go?" Eira shouted, grabbing his arms.

"I made it easier to carry, sweetheart. So…." he paused, his eyebrows bouncing on his face, "what's your name?"

"Eira Hercules and to your former question, I'm from Red Moon City."

"That's far from here. How did you come?" He asked her, even though he already knew the answer.

"I came by road. It took me eight days to arrive at the portal."

He chuckled, "You could have just teleported, sis."

"Tele what? I can't even vanish long distances not to imagine teleporting. I dunno what my powers are too, in a nutshell, I'm a nut job."

They got to the front of a block and he opened his palms and she saw light in a particular direction.

"Well, sister, that's your room with three other girls. There's a bunk bed. I hope you can cope with them and enjoy your stay. When you become a senior, you'll have your own room all to yourself. Till then, stay out of trouble. See you some other time."

With that, he vanished, leaving a speechless Eira.

Yang Lodge

She prodded to the front door and she heard a loud noise.

"Is this a room or a wrestling ring?"

Immediately she turned the door knob, three angry eyes fell on her.

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" The first girl, pink haired barked at her.

"She's obviously a moron who can't talk but gape around like a fool." The second pink haired girl sneered.

"Fools, let's continue with what we're doing because I'll kill you both today."The only white haired girl in the room said.

"You're both pathetic, always wanting to pour their anger on someone," she scoffed and stretched out her palm, "anyways, newbie, come out because you'll die in here."

Eira blinked and followed the white haired girl out of the room hurriedly. They got to a stairway and the girl stopped.

"Well, I'm Samara King and I came in last week only to meet a bunch of bitches as my roomies. I'm half San Francisco and other half is Italian. Trust me, I don't stand bitches. I'll kill them. So who're you?"

"Eira Hercules, Red Moon City."

"Wow!" she beamed, "I've heard of Red Moon City. It's a tiny monarchical country, rich in diamond and oil. Fuck, America will bow to you guys to get that oil and diamond."

"Don't say that, there are still poor people like me there."

"Imma say it again."

They continued chatting till they got to the training ground.

"Friends?" Samara stretched her hand for a handshake and Eira took it quickly.

"Friends."
