Chapter 66 - Chapter 66 – The Pieces on the Board

The night sea stretched endless, stars scattered like burning embers over black waters.

On the deck, the crew slept in uneasy silence Bullet sprawled like a beast, Kael resting upright with spear across his lap, Gryphon snoring like a rolling avalanche.

Only Magnus remained awake, standing at the bow, Shusui sheathed at his side. His silver hair danced in the ocean wind, his eyes sharp and unyielding as they traced the horizon.

He had lived this world once before not as a man within it but as a reader, a watcher. He knew its tides, its rises and falls, its victories and tragedies and now, within it he was no longer an observer. He was the hand poised above the board.

The Gorosei will move fast. He could almost see them the Five Elders whispering in their cold chamber, Admirals sharpening their blades. They'll send the CP0. They'll send the Seraphim. They'll send everything.

Good, Let them.

Magnus's lips curved faintly. His eyes were not on the hunters, but on the pieces he would gather before the world could cage him.

The Warlords. The seven dogs leashed by the Government, each powerful, each flawed but where others saw tools of the World Government, Magnus saw stepping stones to empire.

Gecko Moria, Broken but still dangerous. If Magnus could forge him back into steel, his army of shadows could become an unstoppable vanguard.

Dracule Mihawk whose the world's greatest swordsman, living in solitude. A blade unmatched, a rival to test Shusui against or perhaps, one day, a force to stand beside him.

Jinbe, A warrior of the sea, bound by honor. The Sun Pirates' dream of freedom would burn brighter under Magnus's storm.

Others too men and monsters scattered across the seas, future legends not yet awakened. He would find them, bend them, or break them.

Magnus's hand brushed the hilt of Shusui, and the blade thrummed as if it, too, hungered for conquest.

"To rebuild the world," he whispered to the night, "I will need monsters, kings, and gods. And if they resist…" His eyes hardened, the storm reflected in their depths. "…then I will carve them down until they kneel."

The sea wind howled in reply, carrying his vow across the black horizon.

And in the silence of the deck, unseen by his crew, Magnus began to draw the first map of war.

---

The dawn broke slow over the endless horizon.

Smoke from Impel Down's ruins still clung to the air, drifting like the ghosts of the fallen.

On deck, the crew gathered. Bullet with arms crossed, scowling at the sea like it owed him blood. Gryphon the giant, sitting cross-legged with a massive grin that split his scarred face. Kael, spear resting over his shoulder, posture sharp and disciplined even at rest.

Magnus stood before them, Shusui sheathed but humming faintly, the blade alive with hunger. His cloak rippled in the sea breeze, black lightning whispering across his shoulders.

His crew waited. Not with doubt but with a kind of silent of expectant hunger.

Magnus broke the silence.

"You've followed me through fire and death. You've seen the Government try to bury us under iron and flame." His voice cut sharp, carrying over the waves. "And still… we stand."

Kael slammed the butt of his spear against the deck, his voice hard."Not just stand. We climbed and we'll climb further still, Captain. But tell us where does that climb lead?"

Gryphon leaned forward, curiosity gleaming in his massive eyes."Aye. What mountain are we climbing? What's your end, boy? Riches? A kingdom? Or just the thrill of the fight?"

Bullet barked a laugh, iron fist slamming into his palm."Heh. I've fought beside tyrants and dreamers. None of them lasted. You talk big, Magnus Supreme Ruler, destroyer of the Government. Fine. But where do we start?"

The sea fell silent, the wind stilled.

Magnus's gaze swept them, one by one, his eyes cold yet alight with fire."We start by ripping the leash from the Government's dogs."

Shusui rang as he drew it, the black blade drinking the light of dawn."The Warlords. They serve the World now, but under me… they'll serve freedom or they'll bleed."

Kael's brow furrowed."You mean to tear down the Seven Warlords of the Sea? That's war with the Government itself."

Magnus's smile was sharp as steel."We are already at war."

He let the words sink, the weight of them pressing into bone.

"First," Magnus continued, his voice lowering to a growl, "Gecko Moria. A shadow of the man he once was but his power is not dead. His army of corpses, his fortress on the seas… under my hand, he will become a weapon worthy of empire or I will crush him and claim his throne."

Gryphon's laughter boomed like thunder.

"HAH! Then point me to him, Captain. I'll smash his toy ghosts to dust if he doesn't kneel."

Kael nodded once, eyes gleaming with quiet conviction."Then Moria is our first conquest. So be it."

Bullet leaned forward, teeth bared in a feral grin."Heh,a fine place to start. A warlord falling to us? That'll send shockwaves across the seas. The Government won't be able to hide it."

Magnus sheathed Shusui, the sound sharp as a closing coffin."That's the point. Every warlord we break. Every giant we turn. Every army we bend. The world will see it. They will know it and when the dust clears " His eyes burned, lightning sparking faintly across his form. "the World Government will no longer be a throne but a grave."

The crew erupted in laughter, roars and the giant's booming cry shaking the sails.

And above them, the sea birds scattered, their wings carrying the echo of Magnus's vow into the horizon.
