Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 – A Blade of Kings

The square burned with chaos with Buggy's laughter screeched like nails across steel, his limbs spinning wildly as knives tore through the air. His crew raged and howled, but the frenzy faltered as something far heavier filled the plaza.

At the center of it all, Magnus stood motionless.

The sword in his grip rested low angled like judgment waiting to be delivered. His stillness was more terrifying than Buggy's carnage.

"Oi, brat!" Buggy jeered, spinning midair with knives flying in every direction. "You can't cut me! I'm untouchable!"

Magnus's eyes narrowed.A tilt of the head, a step no louder than a whisper and the blades whistled past him harmlessly.

Then his Haki burst forth.

Conqueror's Haki surged from him like a storm unleashed shaking the very air. Black lightning crackled across the square, torch flames bent violently aside, and the cobblestones cracked beneath the weight of his will. Buggy's crew dropped instantly, their eyes rolling back as foam touched their lips.

Nami gasped and stumbled back clutching her chest as her breath hitched. Her treasure felt meaningless in her arms beneath the suffocating wave. "W-what… what is this pressure?!"

Buggy froze mid-spin his limbs jerking out of rhythm. His painted grin twitched, breaking apart. "C-Conqueror's…? A brat like you?!"

Magnus raised the sword. The steel trembled as his will flooded into it, black lightning snaking along its edge until it hummed with his spirit it wasn't just a blade anymore it was an extension of his haki that of his will to dominate.

His voice rang out calm and cold unshaken by the chaos.

"Sovereign Rend."

The plaza exploded in light and sound.

Black lightning roared from the sword in a sweeping arc splitting the air itself.

Buggy's flying knives shattered into fragments midflight raining uselessly onto the cobblestones.

The ground split with jagged scars as the strike tore through stone and shadow alike.

Buggy was ripped from the air and slammed into the earth his torso crashing down with bone-rattling force, his limbs snapped back toward him unwillingly, bound by fear instead of power and now his painted grin stretched into raw terror as his feet were pinned by Magnus's blade.

"IMPOSSIBLE!" Buggy screamed, thrashing madly. "My Chop-Chop body no sword can cut me!"

Magnus leaned closer, his hair casting a shadow across his sharp features his eyes merciless. The black lightning still crackled across his sword consuming the square in its storm.

"The weak hide behind tricks," he said, his voice low and absolute.

The blade pressed deeper into the stone and the air shook under the weight of his haki.

"But kings…" His gaze bore into Buggy, suffocating and unrelenting.

"Kings carve truth into the world."

Buggy's painted smile shattered completely. The bravado the mocking laughter the clown's madness it all crumbled beneath the undeniable truth of Magnus's will.

And in that moment the world witnessed the birth of his power with his first true strike and his declaration.

---

Buggy writhed against the sword pinning on him, his painted grin broken and his body twitching under the weight of lightning that wouldn't release him.

Magnus did not look at him again. His blade was steady and his aura still pressing down like a king's decree that could not be overturned.

From the edge of the plaza Luffy's laughter broke the silence.

"Shishishi!" His grin stretched wider than ever, eyes sparkling with excitement instead of fear. "That was awesome, Magnus! You've got something really strong inside you!"

He clenched his fists his rubber arms which trembling not from weakness but from raw anticipation. "I knew it! You're strong! Join my crew for real Magnus I don't want someone like you walking off alone!"

Zoro on the other hand stood silent his one eye had followed every movement. The way Magnus's haki had poured into the sword. The way his strike had cleaved through. He felt a sharp pang in his chest with his pride and irritation colliding.

And yet even he couldn't deny it. Magnus had taken his blade and made it sing with a power beyond steel.

He had found someone worth crossing blades with one day.

Nami still clutching her stolen treasure, stared at Magnus with wide eyes. Her lips parted but no words came. She had seen pirates fight had seen killers carve their way through towns but this? This wasn't fighting.

It was pure domination.

Buggy's crew those few who hadn't collapsed under the haki crawled backward in terror. Their voices broke in stammering cries.

"Th-That's impossible…!"

"H-He's a monster…"

"No! He's worse than Buggy!"

Magnus finally raised his blade from the ground as the lightning flickering one last time before it dimmed into silence."I don't waste strength on insects," he said flatly.

"Run before you regret staying."

The pirates scrambled dropping weapons and tripping over each other in their rush to flee.
