Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Pilot

Classes were normal. Laughs echoed down the hallway.

People passed by Nago like he was part of the furniture, something they'd seen too often to acknowledge.

But behind the laughter, there was tension.

He saw the way some kids huddled in the corners, whispering.

The way the teachers smiled too hard.

Phones buzzed more than usual.

"Did you hear what he said?"

"Riku's acting weird."

"Something's off."

And then there was the announcement.

A lockdown drill. Midday. No one was allowed to leave the building.

"We've done these before," said Riku, as they crouched in a darkened classroom, door locked.

"Something's wrong," Nago muttered. "This isn't routine."

Outside the window, he saw teachers running, really running.

And then, Gunshots. Far away, but real. Riku didn't flinch. Nago did.

"W-What the hell?" Nago stumbled back. Everyone in the room became silent. The people next to him trembled.

"I don't wanna die!"

"I gotta call my moms."

Riku tugged his shirt, then whispered after he got his attention.

"Na, let's go see if it's safe outside." He whispered. But outside were more gunshots. Screaming, and alarms.

"D-Do you have a death wish or something?" Nago asked, looking back at Riku.

In the dark room, there were only four of them. Two crouched and scared. The other two were Riku and Nago.

Riku adjusted his tie, ready to move. "We're sitting ducks in here waiting to be killed. Let's move out, come on."

Nago saw a little glimmer of something in Riku's pockets. But he didn't mind much it of it.

"Fine, let's leave. What's to lose?" Nago made up his mind.

They got up. Stretching their legs ready to run. And with no remorse for the other two, they ran out the door.

Nago panted with adrenaline, running to the end of the hall. "This way!" He said, turning a corner to where the stairs were.

"We'll be safe on the roof!" He said, quickly moving up the steps.

They got to the roof door, and after some struggle, they broke the door open. Both of them fell to the floor.

They both panted, bent out of shape and sweating.

"We're safe here." He said, getting up. Believing in his words.

Riku got up aswell. And as Nago moved closer to see how tall the edge is from the ground, Riku stopped following him.

"Hey, Na." "Yeah?"

Nago turned around. There was a gun. In Riku's hand was a gun that he had pulled from his pocket.

"What are you doing with that-" he was cut off by a shot in the stomach.

Riku scoffed, spitting on the ground as Nago fell to the first floor.

"Dumb bastard." He said, walking back inside.

This is it. I'm dead now.

"I wish I had done more, or had a cool superpower."

"I was only fifteen after all. But at least I died with no regrets, right?"

"Damn… I wish… I could-"
