Lorraine observed the floating blue screen that materialized in her frontal vision, her face as still as a statue as her body continued to process the shock.
'A….A E-Rank Talent….h…how is this possible…' She thought, a cold sweat breaking at the side of her face as she tried to process it all.
She couldn't believe that she, the top student of Golden Seekers Academy, had awakened a Low Grade Talent. It was unprecedented, a smack to the face to all the years of brutal training, learning, and her mentors that had helped her reach her esteemed position.
Her hands clenched unconsciously at her sides, trembling as she tried to calm her racing heart. Her breathing was rough and uneven, her eyes glancing to those around her.
"WOAH!!" A surprised, and yet ecstatic gasp caught her attention, as Loraine's eyes landed on a student that had been chosen by the Tower. A large ice crystal had materialized above their palm, shimmering with a frightening blue chill in the barely visible cavern they found themselves in.
Soon many others had begun to awaken their Talents, a few showed off their Talents proudly and happily, ecstatic to see that the Tower has chosen them. One of them being her best friend, who had caught the eye of everyone around her and leaving them stunned, including the Instructor.
Amy looked to have awakened a flame-type Talent, as a large fireball materialized in her hand, crackling intensely and emitting a powerful heat that threatened to burn those that remained too close to her.
Even Amy looked to be in shock, as her pink coloured widened eyes in surprise upon seeing the power she had received. Her pink hair blowing back from the radiant heat.
"Amazing! Absolutely marvelous!" The Instructor said, her eyes practically beaming as she watched the girl. A approving smile formed on her lips, genuinely proud of the prodigy Golden Seekers Academy managed to produce.
'Just from watching her, I can tell that she has a high ranking Talent.' She thought.
"Alright, now then, now that you have all awakened your Talents, It's time to see what their ranks are. Line up and place your hand on the screen to have systems registered in our database. After which, we will end today's awakening ceremony."
The instructor pulled out a sleek black screen tablet, which size was so massive it barely fit in her hand.
The students quickly formed lines and got in position as one by one they started to get themselves registered. A student walked forward and placed his hand on the black screen, as a strange blue light covered his hand and recorded his information.
"Student Arnold Winters has awakened a Basic Grade Talent: Devastating Blow" The instructor announced, and the process continued like that for a little while.
More and more students went up and down, getting their information recorded and the instructor announcing their Talents. Lorraine was starting to grow anxious, as with every passing minute, she was closer and closer to being next.
She couldn't have everyone finding out that her Talent was a Low Rank one, she would utterly be humiliated, and the reputation she had build for herself would be destroyed. But in a situation like this, where every second was 1 step closer to her inevitable exposure, nothing could be done to hide her Talent.
Lorraine watched as her best friend, Amy, shot her a cocky and mildly teasing grin, before placing her hand on the tablet, having her information recorded and leaving the Instructor utterly dumbfounded.
"A-ah! Student Amy Roselle has awakened a High Grade Talent: Catastrophic Flame Master!!" The instructor said, her voice full of awe and amazement.
'It's just as I thought! She truly is a prodigy!' The instructor thought, dismissing her momentarily as she calmed herself down a bit. Such prodigies were very rare to find, and were very valuable to guilds and to the society of Seekers as a whole.
"Haha! Lorraine! Did you hear that? I awakened a High Grade Talent! I'm practically a genius now!" Amy said, her voice loud and full of joy as she approached Loraine.
Loraine smiled awkwardly, while she was genuinely happy to hear that Amy had a bright future, she knew that she herself did not. She couldn't help but panic inside, the tension weighing her down heavily as she fought to maintain a calm appearance outside.
"T-That's amazing! I'm really happy for you!" Loraine said, though her voice lacked a bit of enthusiasm. Luckily for her, Amy didn't seem to pick it up however, too lost in her euphoric bliss of awakening a High Grade Talent.
Amy grinned, "Hehe, but I'm sure my Talent would pale in comparison to what you got. I bet its something this world has never seen before!" Amy couldn't hide her excitement, her eyes practically beaming with anticipation, making Loraine feel even more guilty as she knew that she wasn't going to awaken what many would expect of her to.
Lorraine merely nodded, and proceeded to walk towards the Instructor. Each step she took made her feel more and more uneasy.
'Alright then, now its her turn.' The instructor thought, looking up to see Loraine standing in front of her, nervous as a wreck. She was a bit confused at the sight, raising a brow as she studied her for a moment.
She shook it off, deciding to only focus on recording her information. She couldn't help but feel very excited to see what Loraine would awaken, after all, Loraine was the talk of everyone, a prodigy among prodigies, surely she would awaken something extraordinary…
"Place your hand on the screen tablet."

Loraine's skin practically crawled upon hearing those words, but she couldn't say no, otherwise they'd find it suspicious. She was about to lower her hand to touch the screen, when she heard the many excited whispers of the students behind her, making her heart clench with guilt.
"Oh my gosh! We're finally going to hear what Loraine awakened! I'm so excited!"
"I know right? If someone's gonna awaken something ground breaking, it's definitely her!"
Lorraine's breath hitched in her throat, the guild enough to almost make her choke. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she placed her hand on the screen tablet.
"..." The Instructor's eyes were wide and full of shock, reading the information displayed on the tablet. She was confused, what was she seeing?
'This….' The instructor was truly at a loss for words, she searched Loraine's face, seeing the disappointment already etched onto her face. She couldn't help but feel a huge sense of loss, everyone was hoping for Loraine to get a Legendary Grade Talent, or even a High Grade Talent would've satisfied everyone's expectations.
But to see that she had awakened something so bad, a Talent so weak it bordered on trash. In comparison to other Talents that were Basic Grade or higher, Lorraine had hit rock bottom, and she couldn't help but feel extremely disappointed.
With a sigh of disappointment, the Instructor announced Loraine's Talent, shocking everyone to the core.
