Ficool

Chapter 1 - Prelude

…I woke up, sitting on my bed. I slowly glanced over the calendar by the bedside table. It's summer holidays. That's right, I'm on vacation now!

I took a shower and went downstairs to notice that my dad made breakfast before leaving for work. Picking up the sticky note he left on the fridge, it read: "Ryan, there's some toast on the plate, make some eggs if you want. Prepare us some lunch and join me at the site when you can. - Dad".

I opened the fridge but there wasn't anything that appealed to the definition of snacks. 'I have to hurry up with the cooking to join him as soon as i can', I thought to myself while stuffing my mouth with toasts.

Walking down the pavement with a plastic bag on a very hot morning, I think it's half past 10. I had to wear this sleeveless tee and hat to protect myself from this nasty god-forsaken heat. But i don't hate this, in fact on the contrary, this is actually quite nice when it's evening. The sun would go away, filling the sky with warm soothing light that you can't miss without a cup of tea. It makes you feel like you earned something.

There's no soul to be seen in the streets today. It's just me and these lunch boxes that I have been delivering to dad's office since the school had closed for summer vacation. Besides, There's nothing better to do at home. I guess, everyone about my age is in the comfort of their homes, playing their Nintendo or watching TV. That is, if we assume they wake up before afternoon.

"Oii!" someone yelled.

Oh we got some company now.

"Hey!" I shouted back.

"Well well well, I ain't seen your kind around these parts.. get the fuck out!" said the tanned guy with a buzz cut from the other side of the lane.

"Hey, I mean no harm. Will you be kind enough to show the way around here?" I replied.

"Yeah, Let's go, man," said Vic, wrapping his right arm around my shoulder. He is Vic. Vic and I go to the same school. He is shorter than me with brown hair and wears cut jeans that have seen better days. He likes to hangout with me and dad at the office. Most often, he ends up helping out with our work.

"I peed in the kitchen sink today." told Vic.

"Do I really need to know that, man..?"

It's rare to come across people who actually say everything they think out loud. Maybe idiots do. It would have been nice if both of us were friends for a long time to look back to this day with nostalgia. But Life always has its own plans.

End of prelude.
