Lucian's POV
The summons came in the late afternoon, delivered by one of Yin's personal attendants with that insufferable air of superiority they all carried.
"Lord Lucian, Prince Yin requests your presence in his study immediately."
I resisted the urge to snap at the boy and instead offered a placid smile. "Of course. Tell His Highness I shall attend him presently"
None of the guards who use to regard me with so much respect greeted me properly.
I knew what this was about. Valda, my foolish daughter, had been caught. The question was how much did he actually know?
I knocked twice before entering. Yin sat behind his mahogany desk, his expression thunderous. Papers were scattered before him but his attention was fixed entirely on me.
"Lucian. Sit"
Not Lord Lucian. Just Lucian. This was worse than I'd anticipated but I managed to keep my anger in check.
I settled into the chair across from him, keeping my features schooled into concern.
